Problem-solving techniques are practical tools that help people deal with difficult situations in an organized and effective manner.

They are especially useful in the treatment of depression, as many people with this diagnosis perceive their environment as overwhelming or hopeless. This perception can lead to feelings of helplessness and despair.

These techniques are not used in very acute phases of the disorder. First, the person needs to have greater emotional stability and have developed certain basic skills, such as identifying negative thoughts and managing emotions.

Once this level has been reached, problem-solving techniques are introduced as part of the therapeutic process.

The process consists of six simple steps:

This technique allows the person to regain control over their daily life, recover their capacity for agency, and face challenges in a more structured way.

Over time, self-esteem and perceived self-efficacy improve. In addition, it offers a model that can be repeated for future problems, helping to prevent relapse.
