Learn from your deficiencies - coaching business

When we talk about personal progress and development, learning to know ourselves is one of the most important tasks that every person must address. Our shortcomings can be a valuable source of information, as they tell us where we need to focus our attention if we want to perfect our skills and abilities to build a better version of ourselves.

Accepting who we are and striving to overcome our limitations are not contradictory ideas. By accepting ourselves as we are, we also learn to identify our weaknesses, which implies recognizing their existence, however, this does not mean that we cannot work to improve them and better ourselves every day. In this guide, we will explore some of the most relevant elements related to this topic, so that you can learn from your shortcomings and use this knowledge to benefit your interests.

Identifying our shortcomings

As we focus on fostering personal growth by working hard to overcome our limitations, the first step is to learn to identify each shortcoming with a critical perspective and detached from any emotional elements that may distort our view of ourselves. Recognizing our shortcomings can be more complicated than we think, as we usually find it difficult to criticize our own actions and accept that we have weaknesses that we can work on.

For this process to be effective, it is essential that we understand that self-assessment is not just an exercise aimed at improving the weaker aspects of our personality, therefore, the initial task is to draw up a table in which we list our strengths and weaknesses. This table or list aims to differentiate between our strengths and weaknesses, the weaknesses being listed in order of impact, prioritizing those that most negatively affect us.

Work on your weaknesses

Once we have identified our weaknesses, we can focus on working to overcome them. Normally, the weaknesses we identify can be classified into those that stem from training factors and those that are intrinsic to our personality.

Weaknesses related to training are the easiest to address, as they usually arise from a lack of knowledge in a particular area, which may cause us to not excel in those subjects or to show insecurity when approaching them. Upon identifying these weaknesses, we simply need to supplement our information through personal preparation. Once we have filled in the knowledge gaps, these weaknesses will disappear completely.

The second group of weaknesses, which relates to the intrinsic aspects of our personality, is much more complicated to overcome, as it is not easy to modify patterns that have been established in our mind over the years. Working on these weaknesses requires a daily effort, although it is a difficult process, it is possible to improve our personality traits if we manage to identify the sources that generate these behaviors in us.

Enhance your strengths

Part of learning to recognize our weaknesses also includes knowing what our strengths are. If we are able to enhance our skills, we can highlight the aspects that allow us to stand out and project a positive image. You should not be ashamed of showing your strengths, just as you should not be ashamed of having weaknesses, they are both parts of your personality and, therefore, shape the image you project as a social being.
