What are the fundamental stages of coaching process - coaching business
Before answering the above question, it is useful to review the concept of coaching. According to the International Coach Federation, it consists of working together with the client in a creative and stimulating process, which serves as inspiration to maximize their personal and professional potential. In other words, we are talking about a bond of ascending closeness between coach and coachee, where the purpose is the fulfillment of the latter's goals. In any case, the coachee should not be seen as a receiver, but as the person being influenced.
The coaching process assumes an itinerary, different moments that will be determined by those involved, to a greater extent by the professional, according to the specific needs. However, despite the particularities of each process, there are the so-called "fundamental stages of the coaching process" as a guide: the circumstances are diagnosed, the real and ideal situation is diagnosed, progress is made towards the moment of feedback, a plan for action is jointly established, and finally there is a disciplined follow-up of this plan.
Defining the coaching process: This is the introductory step, defining everything from terminology to how the concept is put into practice. Once the client knows what coaching is all about, it is easier for him/her to understand the benefits of this service. It is the professional accompaniment in a process of importance in the coach's life journey. The coach provides spiritual and pragmatic guidance, broadly speaking, for the client's undertaking. This first moment must be accompanied by the determination of the particular objective.
Expanding the visualization of the objective: With the objective already defined, a new perspective is generated for its visualization. It is impossible for the coachee to have taken all possible effective positions, let alone to have analyzed each potential procedure. Through a dialogue characterized by analytical questions, an attempt is made to lead the coachee to an awareness. In this case, it is the coachee who determines which aspect to prioritize and how to handle this personal search. The coach limits himself to generating a dialogue that encourages intellectual effort and provides security.
Getting rid of mental obstacles: Viktor Frankl is the author behind the idea that between what happens to us and our reaction there is a space determined by interpretation, and more importantly, by the decisions behind our lifestyle and thinking that have consolidated that filter of interpretation. It is an essential part of the coach's job to maneuver with the mental structure of the coachee, so that what was a limiting terrain becomes beliefs that enhance the performance of the latter. In most cases, behind failure lies harmful self-perception or prejudice. Working to generate a pleasant and productive way of thinking has an instantaneous reflection in the behavioral dimension.
Plan in hand and get to work: We have already dealt with the theoretical and psychological part of the coaching process, but we are at the defining point: writing the plan and getting started. First, an initial plan is created together, subject to change depending on behavior or effectiveness. Then, in each session, you must establish the points that must be resolved, or at least be on the way to being managed, for the next meeting. Attention should always be paid to the conversion of the meaning of the term "success" for the coachee, this is a key point to measure the maturity of the process being developed.
