Positively manage your self perception - life coaching
The way we see and evaluate ourselves reflects our self-esteem and personal perception. On the one hand, being self-critical is useful to identify areas on which we should focus for our personal growth. However, it is essential that this self-criticism is done from a positive and constructive approach, as our goal is not to feel bad, but to better understand our personality and how we relate to our environment.
During the course of this guide we will be discussing the issue of self-perception and how important it is for us to practice it from a positive point of view.
Self-concept simply refers to how we see ourselves, that is, the criteria we have about our personality, our aptitudes, strengths and weaknesses. In the same way that we are able to form an opinion about other people and form an image of their most notable characteristics or personality traits, we also do the same with ourselves, based on what we appreciate and believe we are.
Self-perception is not always aligned with reality, and the difficulty of perceiving oneself can be biased by many factors, where self-esteem, the social group in which we find ourselves, our state of mind, among other factors, naturally intervene. The same happens when we form an image of another person, this image is formed based on our personal experiences in the exchange with this person, but this does not mean that the image we have is the most adjusted to reality or the one that most people have.
When we promote positive self-perception, we point to the need to maintain an adequate state of mind in balance with the way we judge ourselves and strive to overcome our weaknesses. Self-perception should be done for cognitive purposes, we seek to understand more about ourselves and learn to know ourselves in order to work on the development of our abilities.
However, we should not derive negative feelings towards ourselves or fall into a state of anxiety or frustration as a result of the situation in which we find ourselves at the moment. Keep in mind that being focused on your self-improvement is a very important reason to feel good about yourself, most people don't even get to rethink how they can build a better version of who they are today.
As we have already mentioned, self-perception is a valuable tool for gaining knowledge, not for judging or scolding ourselves for mistakes we have made. Through self-perception we seek to know more about ourselves, to form an integral image of each of our personality traits, as if we were observing another person who is interacting with us.
Every day, the people we interact with have a perception of who we are, the problem is that by education and common sense, they will not tell you honestly how they appreciate you and what they think of you, that is why knowing how to perceive ourselves from a vision that is as neutral as possible, will be useful to know more about yourself and understand what impact you cause with your actions in those with whom you interact in your day to day.
