Sleep is not optional for our organism, just like eating or hydration. When we do not sleep, our body begins to deteriorate progressively, since it is during sleep that it has the opportunity to recover from daily wear and tear.
Lack of sleep is associated with one of the most significant factors in the acceleration of aging. Insufficient sleep contributes to an increase in stress and, therefore, to various health effects derived from it.
When we start a new working day without having had the necessary rest, we experience symptoms such as lack of concentration, dizziness, memory problems, difficulties in thinking or making decisions, irritability and malaise, among others. All these symptoms are indicative that we are taking our body to an extreme that is detrimental to our health, manifesting the urgent need to rest.

One of the aspects we often overlook when calculating our rest time is the accumulation of sleep. Some people mistakenly believe that they can work through the week by staying awake and then catch up on lost sleep on the weekend. Getting too much sleep in a single day will not make up for the damage accumulated during the week.
If you have spent five days pushing your body to its limit, not allowing it to recover from the wear and tear, extended sleep on Saturday will not reverse the damage already done. Rest should be a daily priority, don't assume you can get too little sleep without health consequences. The human body can take a lot, but that doesn't mean it won't suffer irreversible damage.
In general, it is recommended to rest approximately 8 hours a day. It is also essential to pay attention to the quality of that rest. It is not enough to lie in bed, if we do not get a deep and restful sleep, we will face the same effects of sleep deprivation. Before going to sleep, try to stay away from screens at least one hour before, avoid large amounts of food before going to bed and prepare your room so that no annoying lights or noises enter.
