Transcription Mapping technique

The mapping technique is a simple representation of a procedure that details all actions sequentially. It allows us to visualize the information, using a primary idea interconnected with other secondary ideas. The map is one of the best ways to order ideas on a particular topic.

Multiple models can be used for the visualization process. You can use a graphic organizer or a brainstorming tool to assist you in forming a graphic. You can shape it in the form of a family tree, sun or any form that allows you to visually capture your ideas. To make a map, drawing skills are not necessary, as long as the model you use is clear and conveys everything you want to convey, it is enough.

When mapping you can start by simply drawing your central idea in the model you find most useful for your concept. It is used to form a visual representation of all kinds of problems, both simple and complex. Mind maps are very useful to assist entrepreneurs in handling large and complicated amounts of information. And it can be used not only in the business framework, but also in educational and personal work.

The reality is that by representing all the information you have about a specific topic in a visual form, it is much easier to understand all its aspects, to generate new ideas. What makes mind mapping so powerful is its simplicity and its ability to keep growing.

Benefits of the mapping technique

Assists in brainstorming and discovering any type of idea, concept or business issue. Serves as a nexus for the understanding of dissimilar ideas and concepts of different origins. Simplifies the communication of new ideas and procedures. It helps to remember information better. It is useful to express ideas in written form and for the organization of ideas.

Steps to create your mind map

To create your map, you must follow certain steps, which I will explain below:

  • You must start with the main idea or concept, to gradually shape the rest of the map from this idea. Choose the central theme for your map and start by creating a visualization of it or writing down a word that represents this initial concept in your mind.
  • Next, begin to surround this idea with as many branches as necessary that are associated with it. Each of the branches should contain a single word that represents the sub-theme in relation to the main one.

To better delimit the branches, I advise you to codify them with different colors or images. You should use some questions to delimit your initial idea:

  • What do I want?
  • Why do I want it?
  • What problems do I want to fix?
  • Why do I need to fix it?
  • What is my company about?

Subsequent branches will then answer the other questions such as why, with whom, how and where. These will stem from the main idea, allowing you to expand your concepts and ideas.

The smaller branches will contain words that further specify the concept or idea of the preceding branch. This is very useful for the development of the overall idea of the mind map, where visual aids and sketches are included. They can also be used in brainstorming and branding sub-themes.

Shaping your mind map

To create your mind map you can make use of the hundreds of templates that exist online, both in free and paid format. You just have to choose the one that best suits your needs. Many entrepreneurs prefer to do it the classic way, with pencil and paper, but it's up to you, the way you prefer.

When starting your business, you should not make one of the most common mistakes that new entrepreneurs make, focusing only on services and products, forgetting the rest. Undoubtedly, the quality of the products or services is of vital importance, but if they do not provide a solution to a problem or consumer need, your venture is null and void.

When you start your business, there are many elements to focus on, apart from the services or products. It is this part, in which the mind map is key to discern.

It is advisable to use colors to better delimit each topic and simplify the process as the map grows. To encompass the ideas you can use heart or cloud shapes, not just circles.

When you are going to write your mind map you must first write your initial idea, which in this case will be the coaching company. Then choose and write the central theme you are going to base it on, which you should place in the center of the page or template you are using. Here you can add an image or color as you see fit. These should be designed to evoke ideas about this word and attract attention, since the brain responds better to visual stimuli.

You should take your time choosing the image and the color palette you are going to use, as these are what will facilitate the association of ideas and concepts. Then you will start drawing all the branches from this central idea, adding the related sub-themes. It is in this part where you will give free rein to al
