Although some say that children are more similar to their time than to their parents, reality shows that the environment in which a child grows up shapes his or her future personality, since by learning by imitating the elders around them, children acquire a way of relating and living that responds to these ethical, cultural and social patterns, so that when they reach adulthood, they will unconsciously express what the environment in which they grew up is like and will have to make the necessary adjustments to choose the behaviors from which they will make their contribution to the world.
The environment that defines us
Growing up imitating the people with whom he lives, every child develops behaviors that define his future behavior. Therefore, inevitably, people who manage work groups have a very accurate perception of the environment where someone who comes to their collective grew up, as this allows them to place them in positions related to their personality, thus ensuring optimal job performance, since most of the time, the work dynamics requires the employee to be respectful of the rules and at the same time, resolute to provide a valuable contribution.
Both law enforcement authorities, as employer agencies and even medical specialists need to have basic knowledge of the different family environments to be able to successfully assume the challenges that from their respective fields of work are presented to them daily, knowing that the human resource is the most precious asset of any society.
Different family environments
Broadly speaking, a shy, indecisive young person with a tendency to comply with orders in a submissive manner could be defined as the fruit of an authoritarian upbringing environment where children grow up subject to patterns of total obedience, without ever having the option to decide or expose their ideas, coming to consider themselves as worthless and incapable people, because these authoritarian environments in search of the necessary respect annul the uniqueness that defines each person.
But, sometimes, these authoritarian upbringing environments, by educating children in a rigid and unloving way, generate rebellious adults, who by rebelling with society seek to alleviate the feeling of abuse and mistreatment they suffered as children. They are often depressive adults, dependent on harmful substances and disrespectful with all order and authority figures, having difficulties in interpersonal and affective relationships, because they did not receive those skills in their childhood.
Aware that love is the main ingredient in the upbringing of children, there are parents who develop a parenting environment where love predominates over order and discipline. These permissive parents love their children in such a way that they fail to transmit to them values such as effort, responsibility, delayed gratification, respect for rules and limits, and generate, in the end, selfish adults, nonconformist and incapable of adapting to environments where there are rules to comply with.
As they receive from their parents total freedom to act while growing up, their sense of independence often prevents them from establishing positive interpersonal relationships. They are adults who know how to express affection and love, which favors sentimental relationships; however, their capricious and spoiled behavior often destroys their relationships because they are demanding and even aggressive when they do not get what they want.
The family environment, as everything in life, is subject to change, but sometimes these changes involve a critical turn in the family dynamics, and being the most vulnerable because of their young age and lack of knowledge of the world, children are the most affected by these changes, ranging from temporary absences of parents to definitive ones, causing children to grow up in the care of third parties who, although they satisfy their most basic needs (and may even provide affection), cannot replace the effective guidance of biological parents.
In these parenting environments with uninvolved or absent parents, children generally underachieve in school and drop out, reducing their chances of learning skills and knowledge useful for their adult life. Coupled with this, they may be adults who suffer from depression and also damaged self-esteem due to the anguish caused by the absence of the parents.
These children of uninvolved parents relate with difficulty and find it hard to trust and relate to others; sometimes showing a lack of defined identity, selfishness and little optimism, which is a quality that mobilizes actions to achieve personal progress in life, and therefore, it is very positive to cultivate this way of being since childhood.
Aware of how valuable optimism is, together with a sense of responsibility and the ability to express oneself and make decisions, parents who foster a nurturing or healthy upbringing environment educate their children with much love and dedication, spending as much time as possible with them to enjoy a communication where all family members are enriched, as they exchange knowledge and experiences that are useful to all.
Importance of a healthy environment
A healthy family environment is the most suitable for children to acquire the knowledge and skills they will need in their future adult life. These homes provide their children with an unforgettable experience, since understanding, unconditional support and affection predominate in them, without neglecting the limits and discipline needed to grow up with respect and responsibility.
In this healthy environment, children grow up healthy both physically and emotionally and it creates in them, as they grow up, the desire to form similar families, because they feel that they have received a comprehensive training that makes them successful adults who can assume without fear all the challenges that life brings before them, leaving strengthened in this process of continuous improvement and feeling the unconditional support of their family group, because this type of family maintains strong bonds of communication and affection for life.
