Transcription Projection and Goals Tools

The Mandala: orientation and decision making

The Mandala is a projective tool frequently used in vocational orientation and complex decision-making processes.

Its concentric structure allows working on two temporal dimensions simultaneously: the present (the center) and the future (the periphery).

In the center, the student defines "who I am today", exploring his current identity, values and situation.

In the outer circles, he projects "who I want to be" or "where I want to be" in a given time frame (three months, one year, five years).

This tool is especially useful for upperclassmen facing uncertainty about their future.

By graphically capturing their vision, the Mandala helps connect abstract desires with concrete reality.

It allows the student to visualize not only the ultimate goal (e.g., to become an engineer), but the intermediate steps and lifestyle associated with that goal.

It functions as a roadmap that aligns the student's identity with his or her aspirations, reducing anxiety about the future by turning it into a tangible, visually structured plan.

SMART objectives and value alignment

For an intention to become a reality, it must be transformed into an operational goal.

The SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) methodology is the technical standard for formulating these objectives.

In the classroom, this means leaving behind vague resolutions such as "I am going to try harder" to adopt precise commitments such as "I will complete five algebra exercises every evening from 5 to 5:45 p.m. for two weeks." However, the SMART technique alone is insufficient without congruence.

Coaching adds a layer of depth by ensuring that the goal is aligned with the student's values and ethics.

If a student sets an academic goal just to please his or her parents, but it conflicts with his or her personal values, boycott is guaranteed.

The coach works to make the goal environmentally sound and consistent with the student's "being," thus ensuring that the motivation to achieve it is intrinsic and sustainable over the long term.

Summary

The Mandala guides decision-making by connecting the learner's current identity with his or her long-term vision. It functions as a visual and structured roadmap.

The SMART methodology transforms vague intentions into precise, measurable, and time-bound commitments for daily work. This ensures that academic goals are operational and easy to follow.

Coaching adds depth by ensuring that goals are ecological and consistent with the learner's values. This ensures that the motivation to achieve them is intrinsic and professionally sustainable.
