Volume as the soul of the voice

Within the fundamentals of vocal communication, volume occupies a special place, often described as the "soul of the voice."

It is the foundation that gives life and energy to all other elements, such as pitch and rhythm.

Proper volume not only ensures that the message is audible, but it is also one of the most effective tools for capturing and holding the audience's attention.

Without an appropriate volume level, a speech, no matter how brilliant its content, runs the risk of going unnoticed, of not connecting with the audience and of losing all its ability to influence.

Therefore, mastering volume is not a matter of simply "speaking louder", but of learning to project the voice with an energy that gives strength and vitality to the message.

Qualities associated with the right volume: confidence, authority, vitality

The volume level we use projects a series of qualities that the audience perceives almost instantaneously.

Speaking with a strong, sustained volume (for example, a six or seven on a scale of ten) is directly associated with confidence, authority, vitality and conviction in what is being said.

Conversely, a low, weak volume conveys insecurity, lack of authority and low energy, leading the listener to doubt the speaker's credibility and the veracity of his or her message.

The perceptual difference is drastic.

An identical message can be perceived as a powerful statement or as a wavering doubt, depending solely on the volume at which it is delivered, demonstrating that this not only affects audibility, but the very essence of the communicator's credibility.

The connection between volume, body language and facial expressions

Voice and body are intrinsically connected; they do not work in isolation.

When a speaker consciously increases the volume of his voice, it is almost impossible for the rest of his body not to respond in tune.

Higher volume tends to naturally generate more expansive body language and facial expressions that are more animated and consistent with the message.

By projecting the voice more forcefully, the whole body "wakes up," resulting in a much more dynamic and engaging communication to the audience.

This is one of the reasons why volume is so critical: it not only amplifies the sound, but activates the communicator's entire physical presence, transforming a simple speech into a full and lively expression.
