Dedicating yourself to life coaching professionally requires the development of a series of previous skills, which will allow you to effectively manage each session with your clients, in order to optimize results and satisfy their needs. Life coaching is a multidisciplinary profession, therefore, it is not enough to study coaching, but other subjects must be integrated if you want to become an integral specialist.

During the development of this guide we will be addressing some of the most important skills that every aspirant to this profession must develop if he/she wishes to present a minimum standard of efficiency and stand out from his/her competition.

Communication skills

Communication skills are essential for every coach, these are the ones that will enhance our message, making it easier for it to have the greatest possible impact on our clients. The ability to speak in public, to know how to listen, to communicate complex contents in a simple way, among others, are outstanding aspects in every good communicator.

Developing good skills as a communicator is a task that requires time and a lot of practice. It is not easy to exchange with strangers when we are not adapted to it, you must get out of your comfort zone and face these scenarios progressively. Some people have a greater facility for these tasks, however, no matter how difficult your case may be, everything lies in the effort you put in your day to day to improve yourself.

Try to take advantage of every space to perfect your skills, do not get frustrated if you find it hard at the beginning, many of the great communicators of the world were introverted people who were forced to improve and work on their social development.

You don't have to aspire to be able to give a conference in front of a hundred people the first month and your voice won't tremble, take small steps that will give you self-confidence.

Marketing skills

We must not forget that our work as a coach is also our business. In markets as competitive as this one, it is not enough that we are very good at what we do. If we are not able to sell ourselves and reach our target client, our skills as a coach will not be useful in getting work.

Dedicating ourselves entirely to offering a service to the public requires us to know how to administer and manage such basic aspects as sales, which in the end are what allow us to be sustainable and continue to put our knowledge at the service of others efficiently.

Empathy and interest towards our customers

The way we relate to our customers says a lot about what motivates us to dedicate ourselves to what we do. Starting this work without understanding that we are dealing with people and not with products, could lead us to a path where the human aspect may degrade after the daily exercise of our profession.

People who come to us seek advice, but also affection, understanding and empathy. Regardless of the fact that they pay for our services, they want to see from us a genuine interest, that we know how to appreciate their suffering and that we are not only interested in charging them.

Show that you are interested in satisfying your clients' needs to the maximum and the benefits will come on their own. The way you treat your customers is one of the biggest differentiators you can use against your competition. When you follow up on your customers' problems and you sincerely work to solve them in the best way possible, you leave a mark of satisfaction that gives you a considerable advantage in the market.
