Transcription Life vision
To progress you must have a direction. To have a medium and long term direction nothing better than to develop your own vision of life. What you want for yourself.
First you have to be able to visualize that image of who you want to be and where you want to get to, whether in 5, 10 or more years. But if you want to be successful it must be a realistic and meaningful vision. Reasonable and detailed enough to be a useful guide and keep you focused.
Vision, according to the dictionary, also refers to the ability to understand things accurately, so that it is possible to foresee some events and make the right decisions. So we must begin by evaluating the present and preventing its consequences.
Without vision we can get stuck in the same cycle over and over again without really moving forward, unless something forces you to get out of it. Whether it's a job that doesn't interest you, a relationship that no longer works for you, a hostile and depressive environment, and so on.
If we are unable to find our vision, we can hardly make any significant changes in our lives or really commit to anything.
The need for change
In order to change we must want to change. To take responsibility for our problems and our relationships. It is impossible for someone else to do it for us, everyone is responsible for his or her life, it is a right and an obligation. When a person is clear about this, they can begin to focus on what they can do to change their situation, to grow.
How can I improve my situation, how can I get the job I want, how can I acquire new skills, how can I gain more freedom, how can I help others?
We have to decide to change and start acting immediately or nothing will happen. But if we are not convinced of that vision, and that something much better than what we have now awaits us, we risk falling back into old habits. Attitude is one of the first things we need to change when it comes to changing our lives.
One way to know that we need a change, is from a balance and an internal evaluation that leads us to question ourselves if we are doing the right thing, if our habits are helping or hurting us. If our emotions are out of control, for example if we have been feeling bad for some time.
We must begin by assessing our role in these situations, taking responsibility for not getting what we want is the first step to regain control. Only then can we move forward.
Find your life vision
Are you satisfied with your current life purpose, do you feel motivated, do you know your aspirations, what are you passionate about? All of these questions will put you in a position to create your vision. State it as clearly as you can.
The vision is nothing more than your life's purpose, spelling out what you want to achieve. For this you have to define yourself, your strengths and weaknesses. How you see yourself, what you would like to change in each area. You also have to be clear about your core values and what your priority is. This will allow you to align all aspects of your identity. This is the best way to inspire confidence in others, as they will see a correspondence between what you do and what you say.
The role of the coach in the client's vision
The role of the coach is to facilitate change but in no way is the coach responsible for bringing about change. This is a personal decision. A coach must be careful not to create dependency in clients. The work has to be done by the clients.
The coach knows the process and the techniques needed to guide them but the best thing they can do for their clients is to teach them to learn, to create their own processes and offer them the tools to face future challenges. If you make the decisions for them or tell them exactly what to do in every situation they will never discover their capabilities or reach their potential. They must find their own vision of life and learn to take responsibility for their development.
A good coach always has the vision of facilitating the growth, independence and willpower of his clients. That is the goal they keep in mind, regardless of the specific objectives for which they may be hired. Many people look to a life coach to make them feel better, but that is not up to the coach, it is up to them. Each person is responsible for their emotions and self-regulation.
Part of the process of empowerment is discovering that you own your life and are responsible for its changes. They must find their own vision, and see clearly who they want to become. The fundamental lesson a coach wants to convey is that you don't need anyone to save you, you can and must do it yourself.
