Transcription Nutrigenomics

Holistic nutrition incorporates a number of elements, which we generally overlook when embarking on a healthy eating style. The fact of adding to the body the care of the mind and the strengthening of the spirit, allows to obtain more lasting and integral results, that promote a style of general well-being, that is not limited to lose fat or look better, that is why holistic nutrition is more than a diet, it is a whole lifestyle.

Within the triad of body, mind and spirit, the body is an element of great importance. The difference between the way other diets approach the body and the way holistic nutrition approaches it lies in the fact that holistic nutrition sustains a more comprehensive vision, which is not limited to the most basic aspects that we all master, such as caloric balance, nutrients or physical exercise. To support this comprehensive vision, sciences such as nutrigenomics are incorporated, which offers elements of great value when it comes to organizing our meals.

Below we will discuss the basic aspects that distinguish nutrigenomics, in order to understand the role it plays within holistic nutrition.

What is nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics is derived from the well-known nutritional genomics. It is a branch of nutrition that is responsible for carrying out relevant studies on the impact of food on our genetic structure, for this the food is broken down to its minimum expression, analyzing each of its molecules to know in depth the impact they can have on our body, especially in the genes.

Nutrigenomics has been able to demonstrate that certain foods can have a positive or negative influence on the structure of our genes. Several studies have shown that not all diets are suitable for all types of people; while some people do well with a certain diet, others are severely damaged by limiting their food intake. This is mainly due to the fact that the human genotype is a very complex and to a certain extent sensitive system, which is why it must be individualized when facing certain health problems.

Benefits

The benefits of applying nutrigenomics in holistic nutrition are innumerable. The accelerated progress of this branch of science has allowed us to understand that food plans must be individualized, since each organism must be treated in a particular way, according to its personal characteristics.

Thanks to nutrigenomics, we now know more about the damage that can be caused by the abusive consumption of certain foods, such as processed foods. Nutrigenomics reaffirms the thesis of holistic nutrition, that the body must be seen from an integral perspective, not only attending to the basic and general aspects.

Relationship with holistic nutrition

Nutrigenomics has come to bring more scientific elements to holistic nutrition, it has awakened our interest in knowing our organism in depth before undertaking any dietary change.

Nutrigenomics has deepened the study of the genotype and the characteristics of the human genome in its interrelation with food, which has allowed holistic nutrition to develop a healthy lifestyle, which is nourished by this relationship, breaking with the classic paradigms of nutrition, where genes or the brain mattered little when facing a diet.

It is important to understand that holistic nutrition is multidisciplinary, therefore it is based on many branches of science to elaborate its postulates, among which nutrigenomics undoubtedly occupies an important place.
