Transcription The organs

The organs of the human body are units with complex structures, made up of various tissues. Each organ fulfills a specific function within the machinery that represents the human organism. Although it is possible to do without the presence of an organ or part of it, the human body has been designed to make use of all these elements in the performance of its daily functions.

During the present guide we will dedicate special attention to this important subject, which is of vital importance for the increase of the basic knowledge about the anatomy of our body and its functioning, essential aspects to maintain a good health and an adequate lifestyle.

Systems and organs

For the correct study of the organs, these have been grouped into systems or apparatuses, according to the functions they perform and the place where they are located. Within the systems and that the human organism presents we find:

  • Digestive system
  • Excretory apparatus
  • Phonatory apparatus
  • Respiratory system
  • Reproductive system
  • Circulatory system
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Nervous system
  • Endocrine system
  • Lymphatic system
  • Sensory system

These are some of the systems and apparatuses used in anatomy to distinguish between the functions performed by a given organ in relation to the system to which it belongs. For example, the endocrine system is made up of the pancreas, thymus, ovaries and testicles. Other glands such as the hypothalamus, thyroid, pituitary, pineal and adrenal glands, among others, are also part of the endocrine system.

All of them together are responsible for the secretion of hormones, interact in the proper functioning of our metabolism, functioning of our sexual organs, among others.

Vital organs

Within the classification of the organs, the so-called vital organs are distinguished. These are known as such because the functions they perform are indispensable for the survival of our organism.

Among the organs considered vital are: brain, liver, heart, at least one kidney and at least one lung.

It is known that in the case of the kidneys and lungs a stable life can be maintained with the presence of only one of them (one lung and one kidney). However, in the case of individuals who for one reason or another are forced to live with the absence of one lung or one kidney, the quality of life can diminish notably and if the pertinent precautions are not taken, the remaining organ can end up being affected by the overload of work.

The skin

Although there has always been much controversy as to whether or not the skin is an organ, today there is more consensus in affirming that the skin is undoubtedly
