Transcription Breakdown of perma acronym

The PERMA model owes its name to an acronym formed by the initials of its five fundamental components in English.

These elements, proposed as essential to achieving full satisfaction and lasting well-being, are not novel or complex concepts in themselves; rather, they are aspects of human experience that, while familiar, are often neglected in daily life.

Positive psychology organizes and highlights them to remind us of the importance of actively cultivating them.

(P) Positive Emotions (Positive Emotions)

The first letter, "P", stands for "Positive Emotions".

This component refers to the importance of regularly experiencing pleasant feelings such as joy, gratitude, serenity, interest, hope, pride, fun, inspiration and love.

The cultivation of these emotions is a pillar of well-being.

(E) Engagement (Commitment or Involvement)

The "E" stands for "Engagement", which translates as Commitment or Involvement. This element alludes to the experience of being completely absorbed and involved in an activity, to the point of losing track of time.

It is the state known as "flow" and is considered one of the experiences that contribute most to well-being and happiness.

Relationships (Positive Relationships)

The "R" stands for Relationships. This component highlights the fundamental need to maintain positive and meaningful interpersonal connections.

It includes relationships with partners, family, friends and the community at large.

(M) Meaning (Meaning or Purpose)

The "M" stands for "Meaning", which translates as Meaning or Purpose in life.

This element is related to the feeling of belonging and serving something greater than oneself, of feeling that one's life has a transcendent value and direction.

(A) Accomplishment

Finally, the "A" stands for "Accomplishment".

This component focuses on the importance of setting and achieving goals, having objectives in life and experiencing the satisfaction that comes from achieving them, however small or large they may be.

These five elements, although they may seem basic, constitute the structure of the PERMA model and the basis for cultivating a fulfilling life with a high degree of well-being.
