Transcription Millon's Multiaxial Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-IV) - Structure
Clinical Patterns and DSM-5 Alignment
The MCMI-IV is an instrument designed to assess personality and psychopathology, aligned with DSM-5 criteria. It consists of 195 dichotomous response items (True/False).
Its structure includes scales of Clinical Personality Patterns (scales 1 to 8B, such as Schizoid, Avoidant, Narcissistic) and three scales of Severe Personality Pathology (Schizotypal-S, Borderline-C and Paranoid-P).
This distinction makes it possible to differentiate between entrenched styles of functioning and more severe or structural disorders.
Validity and Modifying Scales
To ensure the reliability of the results, the test incorporates critical control scales.
Scale V (Invalidity) detects random responses; if it scores 1 or more, the test may be invalid. Scale W (Inconsistency) assesses contradictions in responses.
The modifying scales are vital for interpreting the patient's attitude: Scale X (Openness/Sincerity) invalidates the test if the score is less than 7 or greater than 114; Scale Y (Social Desirability) measures the tendency to give a good image; and Scale Z (Deva luation) identifies patients who tend to belittle themselves or exaggerate their problems.
Summary
Aligned with the DSM-5, this instrument assesses personality and psychopathology by means of 195 dichotomous items. It distinguishes between ingrained personality patterns and severe structural
