Transcription Positive attitude

Even if someone is not confident in their social skills, a positive attitude can make a difference. Maintaining that mindset lends strength to the information we present.

In addition, speaking at an appropriate speed and intonation can reinforce each word and enhance the outcome of the message, which demonstrates assertiveness.

By stating 'I can do it. I know I can', one shows determination both to oneself and to others. Therefore, it is not only one's innate abilities or talents that matter, but also one's overall attitude and disposition.

Characteristics: What characteristics does a positive person possess?

  • They are able to organize their thoughts and reduce the amount of negative thoughts and the effect they have on their emotional well-being.
  • Acts actively and looks for creative solutions to the problems he/she faces.
  • You see fear as an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone rather than as an obstacle to achieving your dreams.
  • Recognizes that some problems may be the result of external factors and not necessarily his own responsibility.

Attitude and motivation: The way a speaker presents himself is crucial to the influence of his presentation to an audience. According to several studies, the success of a presentation depends not only on the content and strength of your message, but also on the passion and energy with which you present yourself. This means that the way an idea is communicated is as important as the idea itself.

A positive attitude can enhance the message and prevent it from seeming trivial or unimportant. Improving our motivation when communicating can increase our chances of influencing the people we meet.

Victor Kuppers, trainer of future speakers, highlights the relationship between attitude and motivation in his formula for the value of a speech. According to his theory, the value (V) of a speech is determined by adding the knowledge (C) and the skill (H) of the speaker and multiplying the result exponentially by his attitude (A). The formula would be as follows: V = (C + H) x A.

Although knowledge is important, an excellent attitude can compensate for certain deficiencies in knowledge and achieve good results. In addition, the more information we have, the greater our self-confidence and, therefore, the better the projection of our mood.

Optimism and pessimism: The optimistic attitude takes into account the positive meaning of life and refers to the tendency to see the good side of things and to expect favorable results. Next, we will explore how optimism differs from pessimism:

  • While a pessimist tends to focus on the fear and insecurity of giving a speech, an optimist may experience that same feeling but use it as motivation to face the challenge more forcefully.
  • Instead of being overcome by fear, the optimist takes steps to overcome it and envisions a favorable future.
  • The optimist believes that negative situations in life are limited in time and space. That is, they will not last forever and will have a fixed duration.
  • This perspective allows them to strengthen their confidence and have greater control over the situation. They have a greater capacity to adapt and make efforts.
  • On the other hand, a pessimist tends to take situations personally and feels that he has no control over them. The external situation controls him and he does not act, he allows himself to be invaded by fear and desolation.

Graphic example: A graphic example of what was previously mentioned is the case of a person who is afraid to make his first public appearance because he knows that he will begin to tremble and get tongue-tied. This person may reject the opportunity and withdraw with the thought "I couldn't even say a complete sentence".

In contrast, the optimist ignores the feeling or doesn't pay as much attention to the stressful situation. He or she decides to try a plan of action tailored to his or her abilities and resources, knowing that things will work out and if they don't, well, that's just another experience.

Tips: Here are some tips for staying positive and being more optimistic:

  • Remember that negative situations are temporary. For example, if you are nervous about giving a speech or facing a job interview, remember that this situation will not last forever and will soon be over.
  • Take a moment to appreciate and value the good things that have happened to you in the past and the positive opportunities you know await you in the future.
  • Don't feel disappointed or guilty when something doesn't happen as you expected.
  • Recognize your accomplishments and attribute them to your abilities: "I did well because I did well. And when something goes wrong, use constructive self-criticism and acknowledge external factors to help you grow and improve.
