Transcription Communicate ideas of interest to your audience.

The main objective of any speech is to communicate ideas that are of general interest to the audience. In many occasions we find ourselves with topics that we are passionate about and that we would like to develop through a speech. This can lead us to end up making a speech that is not of general interest and therefore does not have the acceptance we want. The art of a good communicator lies in knowing how to perceive the desires and demands of his audience.

Learning to identify these interests is fundamental when it comes to creating attractive speeches that will be remembered by all those present. To do this, we must balance our personal tastes with the expectations of our audience, transmitting a message that is attractive and enjoyable for them.

During the development of this session, we will be addressing some of the most relevant aspects related to this topic. In this way, we seek to highlight the importance of creating our speeches thinking about the general interest and not only about our personal tastes. This will be useful if you wish to perfect your speeches so that your audience will like them.

Align personal tastes with the general interest: When we take a line of thought and structure it into a message that will be transmitted through a public speech, our personal tastes take a back seat. Writing for ourselves is not the same as writing for other people.

Creating an attractive speech involves the same process as selling a product. The first thing to do before selling a product is to think about whether it satisfies the interest of the target consumers. That said, it does not make sense to focus on what you would like to hear, but on what your audience wants to consume and the needs it seeks to satisfy.

In all spheres of communication, be it entertainment, advertising, science, information, etc., the most successful speakers are those who understand the general sentiment of their audience.

Who are the people who consume this type of subject matter and what needs are they seeking to satisfy? Start by answering these simple questions before you begin your speech.

None of the above means that your tastes and passions should not be taken into account. That is why we encourage you to find points of connection between what you would really like to communicate and what your audience wants to receive. If you manage to conduct yourself within a communicative plane that effectively aligns these two elements, you will surely be more effective in your messages.

Why should I take my personal tastes into account?

Analyzing what we have expressed in this session, we might think that it would be best to devote ourselves entirely to satisfying the audience's interest. This is logical, since when we prepare a speech, our main desire is to make it attractive and useful to all those who listen to us. However, it is worth noting that delivering a speech also requires us to be able to identify and get involved with it.

If we do not address topics that are of interest to us, it will be difficult to convey a good emotional state and connect effectively with the audience.

Focus on balancing both your audience's and your own interests. This way you can feel at ease while satisfying the concerns and needs of those who listen to you. When you strive to craft a speech that is enjoyable and engaging for everyone, while feeling comfortable with the subject matter you are addressing, it is easier for you to express yourself naturally and for your performance during the presentation to have a greater impact on the audience.
