Transcription Show your passion

The content of the speech is critical, but so is the passion you show in presenting it. Your emotion must be in tune with the topic you are addressing.

Now, how can we best express our emotions? Although there are certain emotions that cannot be simulated and the audience can perceive it, there are certain tricks that we can take into account to speak with a more emotional tone that is pleasant for our interlocutors.

Characteristics: A motivational speech has unique characteristics:

  • It provides valuable information.
  • It guides towards an objective or incites to action and has a defined duration for each topic.
  • It usually begins with an impacting problem that serves as a motivational hook.
  • It captures the audience's attention.
  • Effective leaders usually communicate it successfully, as they know what emotions to arouse to influence or sensitize.

Self-motivation: It is important to feel motivated when presenting a speech. If the topic does not excite you, try to find an aspect that does or consider how its practical implementation can have some influence on your day-to-day life.

If you don't feel motivated, don't expect the audience to. It all starts with you: you are a medium through which your message will be transmitted to others and multiplied. If you show enthusiasm and motivation, this will reach your audience and they will associate it with the message, predisposing them to act.

Model: Let's propose an example to follow to effectively illustrate a motivational speech. In these times, there are certain key words that, if used properly, can lead to action:

  • Attention.
  • Need.
  • Satisfaction.
  • Visualization.
  • Action.

Attention: As you already know, the first step to attract the interest of your audience is to explain in a direct way the topic that has brought them together. This topic should reflect the reality of the situation and be relevant to the audience. This way you increase the chances of capturing their attention and maintaining their interest.

For example, if our objective is to inform about the importance of physical exercise for our health, we should start by warning about the consequences of not paying attention to physical activity and a balanced diet. By showing how the topic directly affects people's lives, we increase their interest and motivation to listen.

Necessity: After a presentation, it is important to highlight in the introduction the immediate effects of exercise on health. The need to exercise should be framed as a specific problem, such as fitness concerns. As the presentation progresses, this need develops and suggests the beginning of a solution.

The communicative intent is twofold on the one hand, to capture the audience's attention and, on the other hand, to offer a method to alleviate their problem. This is achieved by answering questions such as: How to exercise when we don't feel like it? or What factors prevent us from wanting to exercise? The ultimate goal is to achieve audience satisfaction.

Need and satisfaction: This is how the discourse should be developed, focusing on satisfying current needs or problems. The last element to consider is the power of visualization. What would happen if that latent need were resolved? What would happen if the satisfaction were greater?

By asking these questions, you can imagine the benefits to the audience of resolving the conflict. It is important to go into detail and create a perfect scenario so that the necessary satisfaction can be felt in pursuing dreams.

Action: The ultimate goal of all motivation is to direct to action. Therefore, it is important to include this element in the speech and enhance the practical side of change and justice. For example, we can motivate the audience to take the first step: 'From now on, we will start getting up early to go to the gym and enjoy the advantages this will bring to our life'.

These are structural elements to motivate. What remains to be done is to find out how we can avoid making the speech boring and exhausting.
