Transcription Set high aspirations for yourself

To become an exceptional speaker, it is essential to have goals and set ambitious objectives. By overcoming your own barriers and motivating yourself toward greater personal growth and development, you are setting a broad and exciting horizon that drives you to constantly improve.

In this session, we will discuss how to accomplish big projects by defining short, medium and long-term goals. We will also evaluate and anticipate when our level of motivation or progress is not adequate to achieve our most immediate goals.

Dedication: By setting ambitious goals, you are defining a clear course and committing to your path as a speaker. These goals act as a beacon that guides you on your journey, providing direction and focus.

They also help you overcome challenges and obstacles by providing constant inspiration. One point to note is that keeping these aspirations in mind does not mean that they will be achieved immediately. Everything involves a gradual process that requires time, effort and dedication.

Objectives: An effective way to set high aspirations for yourself is to divide your goals into short-, medium- and long-term objectives:

  • Short-term goals can include improving specific aspects of your verbal expression, such as the volume of your voice or the pace of your speech. You can also record yourself while you speak to identify areas for improvement.
  • § Pay attention to your gestures and facial expressions to ensure that your body language is consistent with what you are saying and conveys the message you want.
  • Medium-term goals may include participating in public speaking competitions or presenting at local events. These opportunities will allow you to put your skills into practice and receive valuable feedback for further improvement. You can also seek out mentors or coaches to guide you.
  • Finally, long-term goals may involve conquering more complex scenarios, such as speaking at international conferences or becoming a recognized leader in your area of expertise.
  • To achieve these goals, continue to develop your skills and expand your knowledge. You can also look for opportunities to collaborate with other professionals and learn from them.

Action plan: In addition to setting clear goals, it is important to develop an action plan to achieve your aspirations. This involves:

  • Identifying the areas in which you need to improve and devising specific strategies and techniques to carry them out.
  • Seek out opportunities to practice, such as public speaking clubs, courses or workshops, where you can receive constructive feedback and refine your performance.
  • Take advantage of online resources, books or videos that provide tips and techniques.
  • Look for specific and realistic goals, which at the same time challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and overcome fears.

Wrong path: Assessing whether you are on the right path to achieve your high aspirations in public speaking can be a subjective and personal process. However, there are certain indicators that can help you measure your progress and determine if you are getting off track:

  • Lack of motivation may be a sign that you need to reevaluate your purpose and find new sources of inspiration. Remember why you set these goals in the first place.
  • If you receive constant negative feedback about your performance, it may be a sign that you need to work more on your skills. Taking this feedback constructively and using it to improve can be beneficial to you.
  • Lack of progress: If you are not seeing progress in your performance despite your best efforts, it may be a sign that you need to reevaluate your goals and strategies. It may be helpful to seek the help of a mentor or coach to identify areas where you need to improve and design another action plan to move forward.
