Generally we find it difficult to look at ourselves objectively and sometimes we have no idea how others see us. We do not take the time to self-analyze ourselves, we lack time occupied in living and we only react to our environment without thinking seriously about the causes and consequences of what we do.

Maybe we do not know how to self-analyze, we do not have the right tools, we were not educated that way, however when we are blocked, we doubt the path to follow or we lack motivation we really need someone to be a mirror and show us what we are, to listen to us and make us reflect on the path we are taking.

A professional coach is trained for that and not only has the ability but also the will to accompany people in that process of change. Someone who sees our potential and helps us to discover our strengths and weaknesses and to bring out the best we have to offer. Someone to whom we can respond when we follow the plan we set for ourselves and at the same time give us encouragement.

These days we can find a coach for any area of our lives, whether in our personal projects or in business.

Emergence and background of coaching

The word coach is an English term that has its etymological origin in Hungary in the 15th century and refers to a new type of carriage created at that time [kocsi]. By the twists and turns of life it now defines a specialty, increasingly in demand, that helps precisely to take people from one point to another in their personal or professional lives.

A closer use began in the 20th century, with the coach as a sports trainer and the English verb "to coach" for the activity of training. Here the coach accompanies athletes and together they work on developing skills and achieving their goals.

One of the most important antecedents of coaching is the book "The Inner Game of Tennis" by Timothy Gallwey, which deals with what goes on in the mind of an athlete and how the inner game [doubts, fears and distractions] determines triumph or defeat. His coaching method has gone beyond sports and has been used in business, education and health.

In fact, the origins of coaching go back to ancient Greece, with the rise of Greek philosophy and thinkers such as Pythagoras, Plato and Socrates. Socrates' method of Maieutics, which helps to achieve clarity and self-awareness through reflective questioning, has been taken from the latter.

Today's coaching fuses many fields of knowledge with the purpose of maximizing personal and professional potential. It draws from sources such as psychology, neuroscience, ontology, social sciences, business development, emotional intelligence and philosophy, among others.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a process in which the coach creates an environment of trust and learning for the client to achieve specific objectives or goals in a short period of time. The coach is a facilitator, accompanies and puts the client in motion, but does not make decisions for him/her.

The objective is for the client to develop his or her potential and have a tangible improvement in his or her life. The coach provides tools and creates a suitable environment for the client to overcome his limitations and manage his own progress based on his knowledge, beliefs and values.

The main characteristics of the coaching process are:
