Transcription The wheel of life
Another tool you can use in your professional coaching activity is the wheel of life. This is a coaching technique to evaluate in a graphical way, the degree of satisfaction of a group of edges of life, as well as the balance that exists between all of them. You can also translate this technique to the corporate wheel that encompasses more aspects of business life.
Although you must keep in mind that people are not just about their work, when you are coaching someone, you must take into consideration all aspects of their life, including their work. The idea is to see the person as a whole. On the Internet you can search for representations of the wheel of life that can be used, of which there are many variations.
Characteristics of the wheel of life
The model I am going to use for this lecture is the one that contains the following aspects:
- Finance
- Career
- Personal growth
- Health
- Contribution
- Environment
- Relationships
These elements will make up the wheel and will be the main gauges of the person's life. This will visually show you the degree of satisfaction of a particular individual with these aspects to discern if there is an imbalance. With this visualization it will be easier for you to know in which parts of your life you need to work more, in order to balance the wheel.
Finances
You are going to start with finances then and you are going to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 would be that you are very dissatisfied with your finances and 10 would be very satisfied. You are then going to give it a number that is close enough to your self-perception of this aspect.
You have to be careful when evaluating finances, as you have to remain realistic in your outlook. You should not compare yourself to the likes of Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos as you will never be satisfied with your finances. Try to use yourself as a starting point to delineate your financial expectations.
Career
To evaluate this aspect you should ask yourself:
- How satisfied do I feel with my career?
- Is there room for growth in my career?
- How much potential is there in my career?
By answering these questions you will again rate this aspect from 1 to 10. It is not necessary for this rating that you have a career that is considered high level, you just have to take into account how happy you are with the career you have chosen, no matter what kind of career it is.
Personal Growth
Evaluate yourself in terms of your personal growth. You who are taking this course can rate yourself with the highest score, as you find yourself actively trying to improve and grow. You should ask yourself what you are doing to better yourself.
Health
The next aspect to rate is health, both your current state and the care you take of it. You should consider both physical and mental health.
Contribution
Contribution is a vitally important element in the wheel of life. It is known that when you contribute to the betterment of others you are less likely to experience depression and unhappiness than people who only focus on themselves. You should always try to contribute to other people and other endeavors besides your own.
Environment
Believe it or not, entertainment and fun allow you to have a better balance in your life. You cannot focus your whole life on work and serious things. For this, the environment where you develop plays a fundamental role. This includes where you live, your family and friends.
You must evaluate in this sense, how good is the environment that surrounds you. If you consider that the environment around you is not as good as it could be, you should take action to change it.
Relationships
Also evaluate all the relationships you have, family, friendships, work and couples. Narrow down which ones you are most satisfied with and which ones you can improve. Rate them on a scale of 1 to 10.
Interpreting the Wheel of Life
r When you have rated all the aspects of the wheel of life, you will pass them to the diagram that you have formed, where you have divided each aspect into 10 spaces from the center outwards. Depending on the score you have given to each element you will color the same amount of spaces starting from the center. In this way you will have a conformed wheel.
Imagine then the diagram as the rear wheel of a bicycle, which in case of being unbalanced you will not be able to use it. What you want to achieve is to balance all the spaces so that the wheel works and the bicycle can ride.
There are many people who will tell you that they hate their job, but they do great in their personal life or vice versa. In this way the wheel will never balance, and you will always feel that somethi
