Transcription Thematic Modules (Power, Esteem and Intimacy)
Power and Control: Self-Efficacy and Problem-Solving
The Power and Control module focuses on the feeling of helplessness. Negative beliefs often revolve around the idea that one has no ability to influence one's life outcomes.
Work is done to strengthen self-efficacy by demonstrating that, although you cannot control everything that happens (such as the traumatic event), you do have power over how you respond in the present.
The belief is fostered: "I can solve problems and meet future challenges," shifting the patient from a position of passive victim to one of active agent in their recovery.
Esteem and Intimacy: Self-worth and Connection
The Esteem (Self-Esteem) module addresses beliefs that trauma has permanently damaged a person's worth ("I'm dirty," "I'm worthless").
It challenges the idea that intrinsic worth depends on what happens to you, redefining worth based on inner qualities.
Finally, the Intimacy module addresses the ability to connect with others and with oneself.
It works on the ability to self-soothe (intimacy with oneself) and to establish healthy boundaries with others without isolating oneself.
It promotes the idea that it is possible to be alone without feeling empty and to be with others without losing oneself.
The New Impact Statement: Treatment Closure
In the final session (Session 12), the patient writes a New Impact Statement.
The goal is to contrast this document with the one written in the first session to evidence cognitive change.
While the first statement used to be full of guilt and negative generalizations ("I ruined my life", "I will never be safe") , the new one reflects a contextualized and compassionate understanding ("The event happened because the aggressor decided to act, it was not my fault", "I am working on trusting again, it is a process").
This exercise consolidates gains, reduces residual guilt and marks the formal end of therapy, empowering the patient to continue to apply these thinking skills aut
