Transcription Advances in treatments and pedagogical approaches

Dyslexia, a learning disorder that affects reading, writing and spelling, has been the subject of constant research in the search for more effective treatments and pedagogical approaches. As we advance in our understanding of the neurobiological and psychological bases of dyslexia, various strategies have been developed and refined to address the challenges faced by people with this disorder.

This session will examine the most recent advances in treatments and pedagogical approaches, highlighting how these can positively impact the learning and development of individuals with dyslexia.

Multisensory Approaches: A Solid Foundation

One of the most notable advances has been the consolidation of multisensory approaches in reading instruction. These methods recognize the importance of involving several senses in the learning process. For example, programs that integrate sight, hearing and touch to teach phonics have proven to be highly effective. By using multiple sensory pathways, a solid foundation is created for understanding and retaining information, addressing the specific processing difficulties faced by people with dyslexia.

Specialized Technology and Software

Technological advances have opened up new frontiers in the treatment of dyslexia. Specialized software, such as interactive applications and brain training software, is designed to adapt to individual needs.

These programs can provide additional practice, immediate feedback, and personalized activities, allowing students with dyslexia to learn at their own pace. In addition, digital accessibility has improved the availability of adapted materials, expanding access to specific educational resources. Early Interventions and Prevention Research has emphasized the importance of early interventions to address reading difficulties before they become more profound. Prevention programs focus on developing phonological skills and phonemic awareness in the early stages of development.

Identifying early signs of risk and providing specific interventions during the early years of education can mitigate the challenges that children with dyslexia may face at later stages.

Neuroscience-Based Approaches

Advances in neuroscience have influenced more specific and tailored pedagogical approaches. Understanding the differences in brain structure and function in people with dyslexia has led to the development of interventions based on neuroplasticity. These approaches seek to take advantage of the brain's ability to adapt and change over time, providing opportunities to improve reading and writing skills.
