Transcription Avoid excessive prohibitions

The way we educate young people says a lot about the kind of parents we are with them: understanding with their age concerns? Not very tolerant?

The common thing is that we transmit the experience in the same way we have learned it without taking into account its repercussion in the character of the young person. The best way to obtain a fruitful result in education is to teach our children rules.

When we allow free will in the little ones they may be satisfied to do their will, but they need to know limits in order to gradually guide their personality towards a good adult. In most cases we want them to behave in the right way, but what is the right way? The greatest power of what we want is in our words.

We use communication to be understood by others. The difference is in how we address young people as intelligently as possible so that they understand the message.

Rules of conduct.

Rules or norms are very important for the formation of a person, because with them we help them to interact better in a society full of restrictions.

The main thing that is sought with the knowledge of standards of conduct in young people, is to make them aware of the importance of respect for others. We teach our children rules of conduct so that they know how far they are allowed to go when we interact in any environment, whether it is the school, the neighborhood or the family.

Norms are passive rules that frame behavior within a range of emotional or physical safety, beyond those limits the consequences begin.

Prohibitions.

There really is no manual of correct behavior for a child, therefore some parents make the mistake of establishing prohibitions. Have we stopped to think how harmful excessive prohibitions can be for our children?

Excessive prohibitions to our children are a symptom of overprotection and fear of change that the lack of it may cause. Excessive prohibitions can cause young people to lack the autonomy to experiment and discover the world around them. Another factor that has a negative influence on a young person's personality, when they live surrounded by warnings about their behavior or actions, is low self-esteem and fear of developing through their own means.

Change the way we communicate.

It is certain that we want the good for our young people, but we will not be reliable for them when we only show them the negative side of the world. Possibly the current educational methods have different results than the old methods because, for that, we have needed to reevaluate a new way of communication.

Imposing makes no sense for a young person who does not yet know the consequences of exceeding certain limits. We must make them understand why it is important to know the risk. A good way to motivate our children to understand is to allow them to experiment on their own to get a personal sense of the world.

Avoid denial.

One of the most common mistakes during our children's education is denial. When we restrict them through denial to actions that make us uncomfortable, we leave them with no choice because we have never taught them that choice.

As a counterpart to what we don't want them to do, we can teach them what we want them to do and emphasize its benefit. This will help persuasive discipline where the little one can come to enjoy the
