Transcription Correcting behavior
In this chapter, we will explore the attitudes that precede many behaviors that we consider "unpleasant" or "undesirable".
By knowing this, we can be vigilant and anticipate future negative behaviors.
By understanding the underlying factors behind misbehavior, we will be able to emphasize our role as guides and facilitators during the early stages of our children's lives.
We will learn about the turtle story technique and explore the impact it has on emotional management.
Negative attitudes.
In the first instance we will focus on the attitudes that can lead to unpleasant behaviors. Some of these attitudes are:
- Fear.
- Pride.
- Intolerance.
- Respect.
- Victimization.
- Mockery.
- Negativity.
Causes of misbehaviors.
The factors that cause negative behaviors are:
- Hunger may seem like an excuse for a child to misbehave. However, have you ever stopped eating for 12 hours straight and noticed a change in your mood? The same thing happens to your child.
- A child does not yet recognize his body's signals and it is normal for him to lose track of time and forget to eat. As a parent, your duty is to make sure you feed your child in time to prevent the discomfort that can arise.
- Sleep is fundamental for children. Before the age of five, they should get their hours of sleep, including a nap before 5:00 pm. This nap should be away from meal times and last approximately 20 minutes.
- It is important to remember that they are constantly growing and need rest to process the external stimuli around them.
- Boredom can be a challenge for children, as they are born with the instinct to explore the world. As parents, it is important to guide them intelligently and cautiously toward what they want to discover.
- Over time, they will learn to deal with boredom and seek out new forms of entertainment. In the meantime, it is important to present them with entertaining stimuli around them.
- Children can experience overstimulation when exposed to multiple stimuli simultaneously. For example, after spending prolonged time in a busy and noisy park, they may start crying for no apparent reason. Therefore, it is important to carefully choose the appropriate time and duration to include them in adult life situations.
Correction.
We can begin to correct certain negative behaviors such as teasing, impulsivity and aggressiveness using different strategies. One of them is the turtle technique.
This strategy is suitable for helping children between the ages of 3 and 9 to manage their emotions. The turtle story technique is based on narrating a story and then helping the child to internalize it. To motivate the child to pay attention, we can tell him or her that the turtle in the story is very similar to him or her.
To narrate the story, we must take into account.
Introduction:
- Introduce the turtle by any name you wish.
