As social beings, we seek validation and acceptance.

One of the easiest ways to get these is to surround ourselves with people who think and believe like we do.

When everyone around us shares our opinions, we feel validated, safe, and "right."

This tendency is known as confirmation bias.

The "Echo Chambers" of Social Media

Social media has exacerbated this phenomenon exponentially.

Algorithms are designed to show us content that we like and engage with.

Over time, our feed becomes an "echo chamber" or "filter bubble," where we only see opinions and news that reinforce our existing beliefs.

Any dissenting opinion seems strange, malicious, or even incomprehensible to us.

This leads to polarization, intolerance, and an inability to engage in constructive dialogue with those who think differently.
