The second principle of Mindfulness is patience

In our culture of immediacy, patience is an often undervalued quality. However, it is essential for our well-being and for any growth process.

Patience, in the context of Mindfulness, involves understanding and accepting that things have their own natural rhythm of development.

We cannot force a plant to grow, and we cannot force our own change.

Patience is closely related to frustration tolerance.

It involves being able to stay with discomfort and uncertainty without reacting impulsively.

Mindfulness practice teaches us to develop this patience through self-observation.

As we sit in meditation, we observe how our mind jumps from one thought to another.

Instead of getting frustrated, we practice patience, gently returning our attention, again and again, to the breath.

This training in patience with ourselves transfers into our daily lives. We learn to respect our own processes of change and learning.

We understand that emotional management is not achieved overnight, but is a path that requires time and constant practice.

Patience allows us to be kinder to ourselves when we fail. And it gives us the perseverance to continue on our path of personal development, trusting that, with time and practice, the fruits will come.
