The advance of the digital era in all spheres of life and the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a rethinking of the ways of communicating and working in offices, causing many of their workers to work from home, and companies to redesign spaces to make them safer.

When decorating an office, whether in the company or at home -whether an entire room or a small work area- we must follow certain guidelines to achieve a healthy and comfortable environment that stimulates productivity and creativity at work.

Elements to consider when setting up workstations

The office worker's workstation should be located away from sources of noise, with the best conditions of natural lighting, ventilation, privacy and space.

The choice of furniture and basic equipment will depend on the available space and the activities to be performed there. In general, offices include a table, a chair, a chest of drawers, a computer and other necessary peripherals.

When selecting the chair, the table and the equipment we must take into account their ergonomics; that is to say, the conditions of adaptation of these means to the physical and psychological characteristics of the user. The use of inadequate means can generate risks for the worker's health, which can have a negative impact on his performance and motivation.

Sufficient power outlets should be placed in accessible places to connect chargers, portable hard disks or other media. In addition, light should shine on surfaces from the upper left side to avoid reflections and glare.

An area should be set aside for the organized storage of documents generated in the office, so that they can be accessed without having to spend time searching for them.

Guidelines to follow in office decoration

The main objective of office decoration is to achieve environments where functionality, order, natural light, comfort and the amplitude of free spaces prevail; therefore, the use of the minimalist style is recommended.

In minimalist offices, space is vital, so only the essential furniture should be included. The furniture should be functional, but with simple shapes, without any ornamentation. Only a very special decorative element can be included on the table or drawers.

The light must be abundant to make the spaces look cleaner and wider; therefore, curtains should not be placed on the windows and glass through which natural light penetrates; instead it is recommended to use translucent roller blinds.

On the other hand, the artificial light should be of a medium tone between warm and cold; and the luminaries should be installed hidden, embedded in the ceilings or behind some architectural element, so that their presence does not affect the appreciation of the uncluttered space.
