Transcription Negative side of expectations
It is natural, when we invest time and effort in some kind of matter of our interest to expect the benefit of its outcome; but does it have a positive or negative side? Many times we put together a whole plan that can only be carried out with a small detail of an event that has not happened but that we are waiting for; when it happens I take the next step. On the one hand, it is logical that we have expectations for life. The negative thing is when they do not manifest as we expect; we get an undesired result and then it starts to have an impact on our mood. We constantly want to take control of what we want for our future and without realizing it we do not see the downside of creating expectations for ourselves.
Rash emotions.
First of all, we can become fascinated with any idea of progress, both in the material and emotional field. We always long for a certain well-being that is subject to events that have not yet occurred; we become anxious or desperate, usually happens when a very close reality is anticipated. A negative aspect for our emotions when we expect something is to dissociate ourselves from the present moment, to neglect urgent priorities because of a created expectation. We pay more attention to our emotional state, we make hasty decisions and when we do not achieve a satisfactory result we fall into a state of abysmal depression from which it is difficult to recover.
Illusion.
The mind, being such a complex system, falls into unconscious constructions that facilitate all kinds of reality, or so we believe. The illusion is the inevitable result of the expectations that we are born with the purpose of a favorable welfare. Sometimes we can deduce that many of our illusions are unattainable, but some are closer than we think. When we create expectations that are not coherent with our reality through illusion we run the risk of self-laceration and end up in depression when we realize that we have lost time.
Frustration and expectations.
In many ways our expectations become, without realizing it, a negative element for our behavior, especially when we obtain a different result from the one we were looking forward to. Frustration, that state in which many immerse themselves to justify a certain attitude towards life. The negative repercussions of frustration through false expectations can manifest in all areas of our interaction, especially in relationships. Many people, blinded by the frustration of expectations end up blaming someone else so as not to feel responsible for the results and even unconsciously incur in types of manipulation such as emotional blackmail as a means to feel important, unleashing a wave of negative emotions around them.
The past.
The impact of our past plays an important role in how we deal with present events and expectations. If we have suffered from childhood traumas or have been promised things that have never been fulfilled, we may be tied to avoiding the idea of failure. Many of these traumas rooted in the past affect our ability to accept reality as it is and for this reason as a means of defense we create expectations in order to set a better goal. The damaged part of our past influences the type of false expectations in which we cling to for fear of repeating the disappointment.
Goals vs. expectations
It is relevant to clarify that there is a big difference between goals and expectations. Objectives have a predictable outcome and are intentional; we usually set a purpose within a certain time frame requiring effort and work. Expectati
