Transcription Understanding character strengths

Character strengths are a central concept in positive psychology.

They refer to a set of positive traits or characteristics that, when present and cultivated in a person, contribute significantly to a more fulfilling, satisfying and happy life.

These are not merely specific skills or talents. They are deeper and more stable qualities of the personality that manifest themselves in the way we think, feel and act, and are valued for their contribution to individual and collective well-being.

Nature of the Fortresses

In essence, character strengths can be understood as those positive qualities that give us the inner strength to face life's challenges, make difficult decisions when they arise, and act in a constructive and virtuous manner.

They are the aspects of our being that allow us to function optimally and reach our potential.

Far from being abstract, they manifest themselves in concrete behaviors and in the way we interact with the world and with others.

Contribution to a Satisfactory Life

Cultivating and applying these strengths is fundamental to experiencing a more enjoyable and meaningful life.

When a person identifies, develops and utilizes his or her inherent strengths, he or she not only improves his or her own emotional and psychological well-being.

But it also often has a positive impact on their environment and relationships.

They are, in many ways, the internal tools we have to build an existence that we perceive as valuable and rewarding.

The presence and active development of these qualities are, therefore, a path to a more authentic and lasting happiness.
