Transcription King's Complex Figure Test (Application)

Test Objectives and Characteristics

The André Rey Complex Geometric Figure Test was originally designed to assess perceptual organization and visual memory in brain-injured individuals, although its use has expanded to assess intellectual and perceptual-motor development.

This test assesses perceptual activity, attention, immediate visual memory and speed of mental functioning, providing indicators of how the person approaches and organizes visual information.

There are two main versions: Figure A, intended for adults and children from seven years of age, and Figure B, designed for children between 4 and 6 years of age.

Its application should be individual to avoid bias and to allow detailed observation of the performance.

Copying Phase Protocol

The administration is divided into two phases. The first is the copying phase, where the subject is asked to copy the model of the figure taking into account the proportions and details, with the aim of making the reproduction as accurate as possible.

During this stage, the evaluator may observe traits of impulsivity, lack of attention and the quality of the stroke, which may depend on the subject's motivation.

Different colored pencils can be used and periodically exchanged by the evaluator to record the sequence and construction strategy used by the patient when drawing the figure.

Summary

This test evaluates perceptual organization, visual memory and mental speed. It has two versions: Figure A for adults and children over seven years of age, and Figure B for young children.

The administration is individual to observe the execution. The first phase consists of copying the model, allowing the evaluator to detect traits of impulsivity or lack of attention according to the quality and precision of the stroke.

Different colored pencils are used and exchanged during the test. This strategy allows recording the sequence and planning used by the patient to organize the visual information when constructing the figure.
