Elements and Phases of Psychodrama
Created by Jacob Moreno, psychodrama explores truth through dramatic action.
Its five elements are: the Protagonist (patient), the Director (therapist), the Auxiliary Selves (therapeutic actors playing roles), the Stage (physical/imaginary space) and the Audience (resonant group).
The session has three phases: 1) Warming up (preparation for the action), 2) Dramatization (execution of the scene) and 3) Sharing (group feedback, not interpretative but experiential). It seeks to recover lost spontaneity and creativity.
Main Psychodramatic Techniques
The techniques mobilize the psyche through the body. Role Reversal allows the protagonist to put himself in the other's place in order to understand the other's perspective.
Soliloquy consists of expressing out loud intimate thoughts while acting.
The Double is an assistant who stands behind the protagonist and verbalizes what the protagonist does not dare to say, giving voice to his inner world.
The Mirror places the protagonist outside the scene so that he/she can observe him/herself (represented by an assistant) from an objective distance, facilitating insight.
