Transcription How to stop receiving spam?

In the digital age, e-mail has become a fundamental tool for business and personal communication. However, with the increased use of email, the problem of spam has also grown. Spam is unwanted and unsolicited messages that flood our inbox, making it difficult to manage and reducing our productivity.

In this session, we will learn effective strategies to stop receiving spam and keep our inbox free of unwanted emails.

Understanding what spam is and how it reaches our inbox

Spam, also known as junk mail, refers to electronic messages that are sent in bulk to a large number of people without their consent. These messages, mostly of a commercial nature, seek to promote products, services or scams. Spam can arrive in our inbox for a variety of reasons:

  • Unauthorized collection of email addresses: spammers use a variety of techniques to obtain email addresses, such as scanning public websites, buying lists of addresses or using malware to steal them.
  • Purchased or shared distribution lists: Some users may unknowingly end up on spammers' distribution lists due to the purchase or sharing of mailing lists by unscrupulous companies or individuals.
  • Participation in online contests and sweepstakes: In many occasions, by participating in online contests or sweepstakes, without reading the privacy policies, we are allowing our e-mail address to be used for advertising purposes.
  • Subscriptions to newsletters and promotions without filtering: In some cases, by registering on websites or online services, we agree to receive newsletters and promotions without limiting the number or frequency of mailings.

Implement spam filters in your email account.

Most email services, including Gmail, offer built-in spam filters that automatically analyze incoming messages and categorize them as spam or non-spam. These filters use advanced algorithms to detect common patterns in spam messages and move them to a separate folder, preventing them from reaching our main inbox. Spam filters become more effective over time as they learn from our interactions and choices regarding incoming emails.

It is important to know how our email service's spam filter works and to periodically check the spam folder to make sure there are no legitimate messages there. If we identify a legitimate message that has been misclassified as spam, we can mark it as "Not Spam" to improve the accuracy of the filter.

Avoid sharing your email address online.

To reduce the amount of spam we receive, it is critical to protect our email address and prevent it from falling into the hands of spammers. Here are some strategies to avoid unauthorized collection of your address:

  • Use email aliases: Many email services allow you to create aliases or alternate email addresses that link to our main account. Using aliases instead of our primary address allows us to hide our real address and gives us the ability to get rid of the alias if it starts receiving spam.
  • Avoid displaying our address in public: When participating in public forums, social networks or websites, avoid sharing our email address visibly, as spammers can easily collect it.
  • Masking our email address: We can use online services or plugins that mask our email address when sharing it on the web. These services replace our address with a code that only humans can resolve, making it difficult for spammers to automatically collect our address.

Manage your subscriptions and newsletters

Many times, we are the ones who provide our email address to receive newsletters, promotions or information of interest. While these subscriptions can be useful, it is important to manage them properly to prevent them from becoming unwanted spam. Here are some strategies for m
