Transcription Individual Coaching (One to One)

Individual Agile Coaching represents the most personal and direct level of intervention, focusing on a single person (the coachee).

Although it often arises as support within business or team coaching initiatives, it can also be a stand-alone process for the specific development of an individual in the agile context.

This type of coaching requires a deep and trusting connection between coach and coachee.

The process, although shorter in overall duration (typically 1 to 8 weeks for support), follows the general phases of preparation, execution (through structured sessions) and closure, tailored to the individual scale.

The key is to facilitate self-discovery and action on the part of the coachee.

Focus on Needs and Personal/Professional Development

Preparation in individual coaching is crucial and focuses on deeply understanding the coachee.

The first step is to identify the specific needs (both felt by the coachee and observed by the coach or the organization) and the person's current capabilities.

From there, the key objectives and outcomes that are sought to be achieved through the coaching process are jointly defined.

This ensures that the coaching is aligned with the coachee's aspirations and/or organizational expectations.

Fundamentally, clear agreements about confidentiality, frequency of sessions and mutual responsibilities should be established.

Creating a space of trust and establishing the constant and attentive presence of the coach are indispensable requirements for the coachee to feel safe to explore and grow.

The Coach-Coachee Dynamic (Listening, Questions, Action)

The execution of individual coaching is materialized in sessions (from 25 to 45 minutes approx.) where a specific dynamic is developed:

  • Active Listening: The coach listens attentively while the coachee "vents" or exposes his ideas, concerns and context.
  • Articulation and Focus: The coach helps the coachee to clearly articulate the central theme or objective of the session. He/she can reinforce agile concepts if relevant.
  • Exploration: Using powerful questions and visualization techniques, the coach guides the coachee to explore his or her situation, options and potential, without giving direct solutions. The coach helps to recall previous goals and actions.
  • Ideation and Design of Actions: The coachee generates ideas and possible actions to move toward his or her goal. The coach maintains momentum and supports this creative process.
  • Commitment and Action: The coachee selects the actions he/she will take. The coach supports this commitment and helps establish accountability mechanisms. Finally, the coachee's progress and effort is recognized.

This iterative dynamic seeks to empower the coachee to find his or her own solutions and take ownership of his or her development.

Summary

Individual Agile Coaching is the most personal and direct level. It focuses on a single person (coachee) for his or her specific development.

Preparation is crucial, focusing on the coachee's needs. Clear objectives are defined and confidentiality and trust agreements are established.

The execution takes place in sessions (25-45 min). Active listening is used, powerful questions and actions are designed, empowering the coachee.
