Transcription Male Somatotypes (Ecto, Meso, Endo)

The challenge of the linear structure (Ectomorph).

This somatotype is characterized by a lean build, long limbs, and a metabolic difficulty in gaining weight or muscle mass. Visually, the figure looks like a narrow, elongated rectangle.

The most common mistake made by these clients is to try to hide their thinness by wearing clothes several sizes too big ("oversize"), which generates the opposite effect: they seem to "swim" inside their clothes, accentuating their physical fragility.

The key to styling here is precise fit ("slim fit" but not "skinny") and the creation of volume through layering.

To structure this silhouette, full-bodied, textured fabrics (such as tweed, corduroy or chunky knit) that add visual thickness are recommended.

Light colors (white, beige, pearl gray) and bright tones (red, electric blue) are excellent allies because they expand the figure.

Dark, tight-fitting monochromatic looks that would make you look even thinner should be avoided.

Strategically, jackets with structured shoulder pads and standard lapels help widen the back, breaking the excessive verticality.

Athletic volume management (Mesomorph).

The mesomorph represents the classic "V" shape: broad shoulders, developed chest and narrow waist.

Although considered the athletic ideal, it presents specific sartorial challenges, as standard clothing often does not conform to the difference in proportion between the back and waist.

If the clothing is too straight, it hides their shape and makes them look square; if it is too tight, they can look like they are going to "pop" at the seams, projecting an aggressive or unstylish image. The goal is to hint at the shape without over-emphasizing it.

Shirts with an athletic fit or back darts are essential to avoid excess fabric at the waist.

Prints and bold colors work well on the torso to keep the focus up.

However, they should be wary of blazers that are too structured or have excessive shoulder pads, as their own anatomy already provides that structure; an unstructured jacket (Neapolitan type) usually suits them better, softening the transition between shoulder and arm.

Styling for the robust silhouette (Endomorph)

The endomorph morphology is defined by a wider bone structure, a generally short neck and a tendency to accumulate volume in the abdominal area and hips, creating a more rounded or oval appearance.

The consultant's priority is to verticalize the silhouette and structure the shoulder area to compensate for the width of the hips.

The right size is non-negotiable: very tight clothes mark the folds, while baggy clothes add unnecessary volume that makes them look heavier.

Opt for clean vertical lines: straight coats without belts, shirts with fine vertical lines and medium-high rise pants that "tuck in" the abdomen without strangling it.

Fabrics should be matte and medium weight; avoid thick or shiny fabrics that expand the figure.

The use of a third open garment (such as a blazer or cardigan) is an excellent technique to create two parallel vertical lines that visually "cut" the width of the torso, slimming the figure immediately.

Summary

The ectomorph has a slim, linear structure that is difficult to fill out. They should avoid oversize clothing that accentuates their fragility, opting for layering and textured fabrics to gain volume.

The mesomorph presents the athletic "V" shape with broad shoulders and narrow waist. It requires "athletic fit" cuts that hint at the shape without bursting at the seams, avoiding excessive stiffness of shoulder pads.

The endomorph tends to roundness and abdominal accumulation. The strategy is to verticalize the silhouette with straight lines, matte fabrics and open third garments that visually cut the width of the torso.
