Transcription Take advantage of public speaking opportunities

Language accompanies us for most of our existence, and while communicating with our loved ones and people close to us is enjoyable, speaking to strangers requires skills that need to be learned. Discovering the satisfaction of capturing the attention of others and sharing a message, be it advertising or poetic, is unique, as nothing pleases more than hearing the voice of our fellow human beings.

One more learning: With just a quick glance, you can understand that adults have learned everything they do from those around them Public speaking follows the same logic, great speakers have learned from others who have inspired them and, motivated by the impulse of the message they want to convey, they practice as much as they can, conversing cordially with two or three individuals, even if they are not very close to each other, giving the speaker the self-confidence needed to learn.

During parenting, when adults must interact to coordinate common activities, such as discussing school menus or field trips, very dynamic encounters are created that encourage discussion, as in neighborhood meetings, environmental advocacy groups, animal protection, and a long list of social activities where the speaker can exercise the art of the gab, gradually learning to communicate with larger and larger groups.

Honing skills: Those who have the desire to be speakers are noted for their facility with words and always receive the invitation of others when it is necessary to speak on behalf of the group. They are often chosen to lead committees, so they are constantly looking for ever more effective ways to speak to larger audiences.

To improve their skills, they put into practice some tips such as:

  • Speak calmly and in a natural and understandable way.
  • Learn to know your voice, also to take care of it as your main resource.
  • Look at people when speaking, since the look is a very important communication channel.
  • Control time, avoiding talking excessively or deviating from the main topic.
  • Know that it is normal to feel a little nervous, but if you know well the subject you are talking about, you will be able to control it.
  • Understand that the body also communicates the message, so you should control your gestures and posture when speaking.

Importance of being a good speaker: On a personal level, this skill offers a great benefit by allowing a clear and effective exposition of one's ideas and points of view, favoring the success of personal negotiations such as obtaining a permit or a job.

In addition, public speaking can support colleagues and leaders in mediating and fostering constructive dialogue between parties. Those who have the ability to speak in public can provide a valuable service to the community, because the combination of words and emotions in a speech increases its power and effectiveness, which makes it a very powerful tool and this can generate confidence and feelings in those who listen to it, thus helping in the solution of situations of common interest.
