Transcription Prevention of aging

Aging is a natural process that we all go through; therefore, it cannot be avoided. This does not imply that we cannot take a series of measures to counteract its effects and prevent certain ills that old age brings with it. We must learn to understand it, accept it and enjoy it for what it is: another moment with its own particularities and characteristics.

Fighting the negative effects of old age through healthy habits is an intelligent measure if we want to enjoy this stage with a good state of health and emotional well-being. What we do in youth has effects that will manifest themselves in old age. When we are young, we often do not instantly appreciate the results of the lifestyle we maintain.

The consumption of toxic substances or continuous exposure to stress can take their toll on us once our bodies become weaker and our biological functions do not develop normally. In this guide, we will address some elements that we must take into account if we want to carry out an adequate prevention of the negative effects of aging, maintaining healthy habits and routines.

Avoiding the consumption of toxic substances

The abuse of toxic substances, such as alcohol and tobacco, does not usually show its most harmful effects during youth. A young person's body is strong enough to cope with the gradual poisoning caused by exposure to these habits. However, the damage generated by these substances is so high that nothing exempts us from facing highly fatal diseases if we maintain this lifestyle during our youth.

By the time we reach old age, our body will have suffered for many years from being exposed to these harmful habits. In the case of alcohol, we can expose ourselves to possible liver cirrhosis due to damage to our liver. Tobacco causes serious cardiovascular problems, affects our blood pressure, clogs our arteries and is a major risk factor for various types of cancer.

Learn to control stress

Stress is often underestimated; we believe that our body can withstand all the pressure we put on it, when in fact, stress is one of the most common causes of many highly fatal diseases. Dealing with stress can be very complex, since, unlike other diseases, stress does not show clear signs of its presence, accumulating until it makes us victims of conditions that can trigger major problems.

Learning to manage stress will require a change of mentality. Adopting a stoic posture in the face of life's problems and making use of rational and analytical thinking to solve the various adversities are some of the most efficient mechanisms to achieve this goal. Try to rest well, sleep at least 8 hours a day and dedicate time to meditate and relax the mind. Pretending to avoid problems is an illusory idea; life is full of adversities, and we are responsible for how we face them and how much we allow them to affect us.

By fostering good habits, based on the organization of our time and work routines, where we provide the necessary space for rest and relaxation, we will be able to counteract the effects of stress in our lives. Many studies have linked the damage of stress to the acceleration of aging in human beings. Remember that the way you live today will determine how you will get to tomorrow.
