Transcription The time we sleep

Many people maintain a hectic lifestyle, with a heavy work and study load, which makes it difficult for them to rest the amount of hours their body demands at night. This causes them to make constant readjustments to balance their rest time and distribute it during daytime hours. The false belief that the important thing is to sleep at least 8 hours during the day, regardless of when we decide to go to bed, leads to serious mistakes such as reversing the time of rest and work, performing long working hours at night and sleeping during the day.

Another question that causes great doubts is whether we should take short naps during the day or whether it is better to accumulate exhaustion in order to sleep deeply at night. During the development of the present guide we will be addressing some of the points we have mentioned above, so that you can deepen your knowledge about the characteristics and peculiarities of the sleep process, in order to efficiently structure your sleep schedule.

Daytime sleep vs. nighttime sleep

The human being is an organism biologically programmed to sleep at night and stay active during the day. The way in which certain hormones are secreted or inhibited during the time we sleep is expressed depending on whether or not we are in the presence of night time. Sleeping at night is not only much healthier, but it is also necessary for the body to perform its functions normally and to ensure a restful sleep.

It is also not advisable to reverse the times of rest regularly, we must understand that we have a kind of very complex biological clock, which conspires in order to make us feel sleepy when the scheduled time of rest is approaching. Our body adapts to the conditions to which it is frequently subjected, whether it is time or time, it is advisable not to make large variations in these patterns to achieve a deep and restful sleep.

If the need arises, you will not be seriously affected by taking a prolonged rest during the day, if you have not had any alternative to rest at night. Try to avoid these occurrences on a regular basis and plan your daily routines so that you have enough time to rest at night.

Can I take short naps during the day?

The issue of whether or not to take short naps during the day should be addressed taking into account the particularities of each person. The first thing would be to define what a short nap is, if it exceeds half an hour of rest, it probably does not fall into this category. Short naps can help you replenish your energy when the night's rest time has not been enough and your daytime is extremely exhausting.

One problem that can be caused by taking naps that are not short and extend over a few hours can be the subsequent impairment of nighttime sleep. Sleeping during the day could mean that you don't get much sleep at night. Try to assess first if you really need to take that nap and try to make sure it is for no more than half an hour.

Ideally, you should always make adjustments in the scheduling of your daily routines to avoid not being able to rest the amount of hours that your body demands at night. If you apply enough discipline and optimize your efforts to be sufficiently productive, you will most likely not need to take naps to recover your rest time.
