Transcription Snoring and sleep
Snoring is extremely common, especially in the adult population. They originate from various causes and can severely affect the quality of sleep of the person who suffers from snoring or of those who have to share a room with this person. Although snoring is associated with certain respiratory conditions, there are a number of conditions that can significantly influence the frequency of snoring.
To understand a little more about snoring and its particularities, we will be analyzing some of the most important elements that revolve around this issue, for this we will review what are the main factors that can condition the occurrence of snoring and consequently the affectations to sleep that are derived from these.
Why do we snore?
Snoring is a symptom that something within our respiratory system is not working properly. To understand this statement, we must begin by identifying what elements produce this sound emanating from us. Inside the throat there are a series of muscles that relax when we are sleeping, thus the tongue retracts and allows air to flow freely. When this air is obstructed for some reason and cannot flow freely between the mouth and the nose, our throat proceeds to vibrate, emitting the sound we know as snoring.
Factors that influence snoring
Although snoring has its origin in a disorder of our respiratory system, which includes muscles and organs that are not working normally, we must pay attention to what factors may have influenced these conditions to evolve to this point.
In the first place, there is overweight, since as we have said, snoring is a sign of obstruction of the air that passes between the nose and the mouth. When we are overweight our body suffers from certain obstruction caused by excess tissue. We also have as a very common source of snoring, nasal or septum deformities. A crooked septum or a malformation of our nostrils may be enough to start snoring during sleep.
Sleep apnea, a condition in which our breathing is unconsciously interrupted while we sleep, is also associated with the onset of snoring. When these two conditions coincide, deep sleep is severely impaired, while the person may be affected by daytime sleepiness due to poor rest.
Actions to counteract snoring
While some of the most common sources of snoring are beyond our control and must be addressed by health care specialists, others we can take action on. If you are overweight, it is very likely that your snoring is based on this, so losing a few pounds and exercis
