A Structured Framework for Change

Although each coaching process is unique and tailored to the needs of the coachee, it generally follows a logical structure with defined steps.

These steps provide a framework to guide the interaction from the initial establishment of the relationship to the final eva luation of the results.

Understanding these general phases helps both parties navigate the process with greater clarity and purpose.

Step 1: Establish the Coach-Coachee Relationship

The first critical step is to establish the relationship between the coach and coachee. In this initial phase, it is crucial that both the mission of the coaching (what is being sought to be achieved) and the rules of the game that will be followed are clear.

A non-negotiable aspect that must be addressed from the outset is confidentiality.

Beyond the formal aspects, it is essential to spend time in this first contact building a relationship based on mutual trust and respect. Without this solid foundation, the process is unlikely to succeed.

Step 2: Needs Assessment

Once the relationship has been established, the next step is to diagnose the person's needs.

In this phase, the coach helps the coachee to identify and analyze his or her problems or areas for improvement, always within the framework of the previously established mission.

It is a moment of deep exploration where the coach seeks to understand the client's current situation.

It is normal that during this step, the original problem raised by the coachee is reformulated.

Through the coach's dialogue and questions, the real underlying problem often emerges, which may be different from what was initially perceived.

Step 3: Develop an Action Plan

With a clear understanding of the needs and objectives (derived from the diagnosis), proceed to the development of an action plan.

Here, coach and coachee agree on the concrete steps to be followed during the process to achieve the defined goals.

The methodology to be used (what type of exercises, tools, etc.) and the frequency of the sessions are also defined. This plan provides the detailed roadmap for working together.

Step 4: Establish the Basis for Monitoring

Parallel to the design of the action plan, it is necessary to establish how progress will be monitored.

It is decided whether monitoring will be based on direct observation (if applicable), probing through questions in the sessions, the use of logs or diaries by the coachee, or other relevant methods.

Defining how progress will be measured ensures that the process stays on track and allows adjustments to be made if necessary.

Step 5: Providing Feedback

Finally, an integral and ongoing part of the process, but especially relevant when eva luating results, is the provision of feedback.

The coach discusses with the coachee the results that are obtained
