Pillars of Effective Coaching

To play the role of guide effectively, the coach must display a series of fundamental elements or qualities that define his or her interaction with the coachee and underpin the coaching relationship.

These elements are not optional, but prerequisites for creating an environment conducive to change and development.

They represent the foundation on which professional and effective coaching is built.

Among the most important are communication skills, a willingness to support, the ability to build trust, and the ability to build a shared vision of goals.

Clear and Transparent Communication

Communication is the coach's primary tool. Since all work is based on verbal and nonverbal interaction with the client, the coach must constantly ensure clarity and transparency in his or her messages.

This implies expressing oneself in a direct, concise and unambiguous manner, adapting the language to the coachee to ensure mutual understanding.

Effective communication prevents misunderstandings and establishes a solid foundation for exploration and working together towards goals.

Constant Support to the Coachee

The coach has the fundamental mission of offering support to the coachee at all times.

This quality often stems from a natural inclination to help and support others.

This support manifests itself in various ways: it can be by providing relevant information (without giving direct solutions), by suggesting external materials or resources, by offering methodological advice on the process, or, more frequently, by providing empathetic understanding and active listening.

The client must perceive the coach as an ally committed to his or her well-being and progress.

Trust as an Indispensable Foundation

The establishment of a solid relationship of trust between coach and coachee is absolutely indispensable in the coaching process.

Without this foundation of safety and credibility, it is very difficult for the client to feel comfortable to open up, explore their vulnerabilities, share their true thoughts and fully commit to the work of change.

Trust is the foundation upon which the entire coaching partnership is built and enables genuine and effective collaboration.

Shared Vision of Goals

Finally, it is crucial to cultivate a shared vision. This implies that both coach and coachee must share clearly defined common goals for the process.

In addition, the coach must help the client understand the importance of agreed-upon procedures and actions to achieve tho
