Transcription Self-Coaching: Facing Common Fears (Success, Failure, Change)
Fear as an Obstacle to Commitment
Sometimes the difficulty in fully committing to our transformation process, even in self-coaching, is not due to a lack of desire, but to the presence of underlying fears.
These fears, often not consciously acknowledged, can sabotage our efforts and slow our progress.
Identifying and addressing these common fears is a crucial step in unlocking our potential and allowing the self-coaching process to be truly effective.
Three of the most common fears that can arise are fear of success, fear of failure and fear of change.
Fear of Success: Negative Connotations
It may sound paradoxical, but some people experience difficulties in achieving success because, in their minds, the concept of "success" carries certain negative connotations.
They may harbor limiting beliefs such as: "success is desired by greedy people", "success attracts envy" or "success breeds enemies".
These negative associations, conscious or unconscious, create an internal conflict: on the one hand, achievement is desired, but on the other, its supposed adverse consequences are feared.
It is possible that this fear of success, with its perceived implications, is affecting you without you realizing it.
Fear of Failure: Risk Avoidance
Fear of failure is extremely common. It is the persistent feeling that we will not be able to achieve what we are setting out to do.
The fear of failure arises in front of ourselves and, often even more intensely, in the eyes of those we perceive to be judging us from the outside.
In fact, there are people who show in their lives a certain recurrent tendency to fail, and this is almost always precisely because they shy away from risk-taking and do not accept opportunities.
When we are afraid of failure, we will generally avoid putting new behaviors into practice or implementing new ideas, which can lead us to a state of apathy, helplessness or stagnation. Is it possible that this fear is limiting you?
Fear of Change: Clinging to the Comfort Zone
Finally, fear of change is another powerful obstacle. Our comfort zone, the space of the known and familiar, is an extremely comfortable place psychologically.
Therefore, any change, even a potentially positive one, can generate a feeling of insecurity and destabilization.
Faced with this discomfort, the natural reaction to regain a sense of security is to avoid change.
The underlying thought may be: "If everything stays just as it is, I have nothing to fear because here, even if it's not perfect, at least I'm not so bad". Is this what happens to you - do you cling to the familiar for fear of change?
Managing Fears in Self-Coaching: Seeking Support
So what do we do with these fears (of success, failure, change) when faced with a self-coaching process?
Since in self-coaching you are your own coach and you do not have that external reference person with whom to talk openly about the problems and difficulties that arise, it is essential to find an alternative. Look for a trusted person in your envir
