The orientation work of the coach towards the client is usually carried out in so-called coaching sessions. A coaching session is the space where the client and the coach exchange and communicate about the various issues to be addressed on the way to the client's preparation. Some of these initial sessions are defined as discovery sessions, which are essential in the cognitive process to be carried out in order to formulate the most accurate client profile possible.

During the course of this guide we will be addressing some of the essential topics that you must master in order to successfully conduct your discovery sessions.

Previous experience and personal training

Among the most important issues to address in your discovery sessions is the client's prior experience and personal background. Knowing these aspects will allow you to know the elementary deficiencies you should work on with your client when it comes to covering his personal preparation for the business he wants to start.

It is complex to start in a market where you have never been part of, not even as an employee. The more experience and preparation the client has in the type of service or product he intends to offer with his business, the more possibilities he has to make his business prosper quickly.

The fact that our client has no previous experience does not exempt him from the possibility of starting a particular business, as long as he is able to cover this lack of experience through the use of other resources. An example of this could be to partner with someone who has mastered the theoretical and practical elements that he lacks or simply invest time and money to cover his training before starting his business.

Time availability

When we start a new business, it is necessary to have enough time to manage and develop a series of actions that will be necessary before making our venture profitable. It is a reality that many entrepreneurs start a business while maintaining their formal employment, with the objective of covering their economic needs while the business prospers.

Although this is not a problem in itself, it is important that the entrepreneur has the time available to manage the business or the results will not be positive. Not all businesses require the same attention, as for example some types of franchises already have a model that is quite automated. However, business management is not limited to operations or work processes, but there are many other elements such as marketing, finance, legality, among others, that will require our attention, especially in the initial months.

Financial resources

The last point we will address in this guide is that of economic resources. Although the availability of time is one of the most important resources to make a business prosper, economic resources are essential to cover the different expenses involved in obtaining the necessary permits and licenses to carry out any economic activity. The optimal level of economic resources to start a business from scratch will depend significantly on the type of business we want to create.

That is why we must know how to discern the approximate amounts of capital required by the type of venture we are getting involved in, so we can make sure that our capital can cover such demands during the time it takes to make the business profitable.

Finances are a very delicate subject and must be handled with great precision if we do not want to see forced interruptions on the way because of the lack of capital to continue.
