Transcription Working on the facts. External influence

In the context of leadership coaching, working on facts and external influence refers to how leaders can use objective information and leverage external resources to make informed decisions and improve their leadership. By combining these two aspects, leaders can make a significant impact on their own growth and the development of their teams.

No matter who your client is in the coaching process, whether you are a top-tier team leader or not, these concerns are universal. It is crucial for leaders to be concerned about adherence to standard work and understanding their team's data. While these aspects are critical, it is also essential that leaders broaden their focus beyond the boundaries of the organization and consider the external environment in which they operate.

Just as leadership coaching seeks to understand the current reality within the organization, it is also necessary to understand the broader reality in which the organization is embedded. Each organization is part of a complete system that includes technical, social and economic elements that interact with each other. This open system constantly interacts with its environment, which means that external changes have a direct impact on the organization.

The external environment is composed of a number of interrelated factors. Leaders must be alert to economic, political and social changes, as these can influence the direction of the organization. Customers, competitors, suppliers and technological trends are also crucial elements to consider, as they can affect the organization's strategy and performance.

Analyzing external influence is about learning from changes and trends occurring outside the organization and applying that knowledge to drive growth and success.

So some of the most commonly used ways to stay current on external influence and take advantage of opportunities are:

  • Continuous learning: leaders can influence externally by seeking learning opportunities outside the organization, such as attending conferences, workshops and courses.
  • Professional networking: interacting with other leaders and professionals in the industry can provide fresh perspectives, and ideas and best practices that can be applied.
  • Mentoring and coaching: seeking mentoring and coaching from experienced leaders can provide valuable insights and guidance for developing different skills.
  • Benchmarking: comparing one's own performance and practices with other organizations can identify opportunities for improvement and guide the implementation of positive changes.
  • Industry trends: being aware of trends and developments in the industry can help leaders make informed decisions and adapt to change.
