Transcription Perceptual Positions
First Position (Self)
This NLP technique is used to resolve conflicts and gain perspective. The First Position is to see the situation from one's own eyes, associated with one's own feelings, needs and opinions. It is the natural "I" position.
It is useful for connecting with what one wants, but limiting if one gets stuck here, as it ignores the impact on others.
Second Position (The Other / Empathy)
The Second Position involves dissociating from oneself and "putting oneself in the shoes" of the other person involved in the conflict.
It involves imagining what the other person thinks, feels and sees, adopting his or her body posture and perspective.
This generates empathy and allows us to understand the other person's motivations ("now I understand why he felt attacked").
Third Position (The Observer)
The Third Position is that of the neutral observer or "the fly on the wall". Here, the person distances him/herself from both sides and observes the interaction from the outside, without emotional charge.
It allows the dynamics of the relationship to be analyzed objectively ("I see two people shouting who want to be right").
Integrating information from all three positions provides holistic understanding and wisdom for resolving the conflict.
Summary
