Now we will delve into a diet that has become more popular in recent years. Social networks and the internet in general, are full of articles and videos dedicated to spreading the benefits of this diet. Many of these disseminators only speak from personal experience and completely ignore scientific studies on the subject.

This diet has many variants, which base their thesis on the same thing, to stop eating during certain periods. What does it consist of? Does it really work?

These are some of the basic questions we seek to answer, so that we can help you make a decision about whether to undertake it or not, with all the information you need to do so.

What is intermittent fasting?

As we said, intermittent fasting is nothing more than suspending food intake for certain periods. These periods are logically much longer than the ones we usually do.

The idea behind all this is that our body has the necessary time to effectively carry out cellular repair, reduce insulin levels and restore certain healthy patterns in our body.

There are many variants of this diet, here are some of the best known and their fundamental characteristics.

20-hour fasting

One of the most complex to perform, because as you can already guess from the name, this consists of eating very little for 20 hours. When we say very little, we mean that food intake is strictly limited to vegetables and fruits in a very limited way.

After the 20 hours have elapsed, you will have a period of 4 hours to consume large amounts of food, in a balanced way and seeking to provide the nutrients and fiber necessary for your body.

Daily fasting

This is probably the most practiced. Daily fasting is restricting food intake to only 8 hours a day. During those 8 hours you will be able to eat normally, but as you will understand this means not having lunch or dinner, or eliminating breakfast.

Alternate fasting

Alternate fasting consists of fasting completely for one day, to resume natural food intake the next day. This fasting is considered as a torture for beginners, because the body demands food daily and we have adapted for years, such a radical change is extremely difficult to maintain over time.

24-hour fasting

This variant is nothing more than not eating for the whole day. A lot of water should be consumed to avoid dehydration.

The subject must be aware that the effects of this fasting are very complex, because 24 hours without food for a person who is subjected to the ordinary activities of every human being, involve frequent dizziness and discomfort, intermittent fatigue among many others.

Is intermittent fasting effective?

Yes, we really cannot say otherwise. Although it is a very controversial diet, it has shown benefits such as the elimination of fat from our body; control of blood pressure; control of triglycerides; better cellular development; among many others.

Intermittent fasting in the end is so popular because of how effective
