Transcription Ketogenic diet

The following diet is one of the most interesting for our consideration. It is based on biological foundations and natural processes of our organism. To understand first of all, what these fundamentals consist of, we must refer to the biological concept of ketosis.

Ketosis is a metabolic state of our organism. It consists of using fat, without using carbohydrates, to carry out the body's natural functions.

Ketosis can be produced by various natural sources, generally associated with our diet, or be induced voluntarily. Knowing what this process consists of, let us proceed to understand how this diet works.

What is the ketogenic diet?

Once we understand what ketosis is, we can summarize the ketogenic diet as that food process in which we seek to induce ketosis in our body.

This dietary process consists of consuming a diet extremely low in carbohydrates, so that these begin to be replaced by fats. The idea is that our body has no alternative but to use fat as the only natural fuel for energy.

This diet also has many variants, in this guide we have compiled some of the best known and we will show them below.

Standard ketogenic diet

This is the most common variant of the ketogenic diet. The idea is that our food intake is especially low in carbohydrates, while increasing fat intake and maintaining a moderate protein intake.

Patterns are established between 5% of carbohydrates; less than 40% and more than 15% of proteins depending on our lifestyle and our routine activities; and between 60 to 80% of fats.

We must gradually reduce carbohydrate levels while increasing fat levels, the idea is not to make a sudden change from one day to another, but to balance these levels as the days go by.

Cyclic ketogenic diet

Here we find a variant that seeks to bring some flexibility to our diet. This, unlike the previous one, is not so restrictive in time in relation to carbohydrates.

The idea is to induce ketosis for 5 days in a row, maintaining a low carbohydrate diet and then take a break during the rest of the week, where we can feed with higher loads of carbohydrates.

Adapted ketogenic diet

This is a variant for those who decide to combine the diet with exercise sessions. The idea is to maintain a low carbohydrate diet, except on training days.

This allows us to adapt the ketogenic diet to subjects who present certain particularities, since calorie burning is not the same for an individual who exercises regularly as it is for one who does not.

This variant is one of the most popular, as it is easy to follow if you already have a pre-established exercise routine.

Is this diet effective?

Yes, this diet is one of the most effective. It is recommended in preference to low-fat diets. The ketogenic diet is twice as effective as low-fat diets and reduces body weight three times faster than many other traditional diets. Increases ketones, providing energy
