Transcription Debunking Common Myths

Family, Motherhood and Democracy in the Home

One of the most widespread myths is that feminism seeks the destruction of the family or that it opposes marriage. This is a misinterpretation.

The movement is not against the family as an institution, but against unjust, violent or dictatorial family models.

Global statistics on domestic violence and intra-family discrimination (such as poor nutrition prioritized for males in certain cultures) reveal that the home can be a dangerous place for many women.

In exposing these conflicts, the goal is not to destroy the home, but to "heal" it, transforming power dynamics so that the family is a space of democracy and mutual respect, not subordination.

Similarly, with respect to motherhood, the position is not one of rejection, but of choice.

It is defended that motherhood should not be an obligatory destiny, but a free and conscious choice.

Furthermore, the idea is promoted that nurturing and caring ("mothering") are human, not biological, skills that can and should also be exercised by men.

When parenting is shared equally, it ceases to be an exclusive burden and becomes an enriching experience for both parents.

Relationship with Men and the Fallacy of Matriarchy

There is a false belief that feminists hate men. It is essential to clarify that the enemy of feminism is not the male gender, but the patriarchal system and the ideology that supports it.

It is the system that dictates oppressive roles, and individuals (men or women) can either perpetuate it or fight it.

In fact, it is recognized that men are also victims of this system that pigeonholes them into roles of aggressiveness and emotional disconnection. Therefore, the struggle is against domination, not against people.

Finally, the fear arises that feminism seeks to establish a "matriarchy", where women dominate men. This contradicts the very essence of the movement.

The goal is not to replace one hierarchy with an inverse one, nor to change a male dictator with a female dictator. Feminism advocates the elimination of all hierarchies of domination.

It seeks a horizontal society based on justice and equality, where no one has arbitrary power over another human being.

Imagining a world where men were oppressed is as unacceptable to feminism as the current reality of female oppression.

Summary

Feminism does not seek to destroy the family, but to democratize it by eliminating violent or authoritarian dynamics. It argues that motherhood should not be a compulsory destiny, but a free and conscious choice.

The movement does not hate men, but fights the patriarchal system that oppresses both genders with rigid roles. The enemy is systemic domination, not individual persons.

It is false that it seeks to establish a matriarchy or female superiority over men. The real objective is to eliminate all hierarchies of domination to create a horizontal and just society.
