Cleaning tasks are not enough; A control system is essential to verify that the work has been carried out correctly and meets the establishment's high quality standards.

This control is the responsibility of the housekeeper and is based on supervision, planning, and time evaluation.

Planning and the "Service Order"

Cleaning work is not random, but planned.

The chambermaid usually receives a weekly "Service Order" where her work is planned and the shifts are established.

This order details the room number or description of the facility to be cleaned, the floor, and the names of the staff in charge of carrying out the task.

This planning is the first phase of control, as it establishes what must be done, who must do it, and when.

The Housekeeper's Supervision Process

Controlling results consists of verifying the facts and comparing them with a technical reference pattern, in this case, the cleaning standards of the hotel.

The housekeeper, as the person in charge of cleaning, is responsible for verifying that tasks are completed using control forms.

Her supervisory work involves checking the rooms (trying not to always check the same ones or in the same order in order to maintain objectivity), checking the public services and lounges, always following the same check guidelines so as not to forget anything, noting the condition of the furniture and belongings, and giving clear and precise instructions to correct any imperfections detected.

If an incident is detected, a "non-conformity" must be generated and the necessary corrective actions applied.

Key Elements in a Room Check

When the housekeeper or the chambermaid checks a room to finalize it, they must pay special attention to a series of key elements.

It is essential to check that all the linens are in good condition, both the bed linen (sheets, bedspreads, pillowcases) and the bathroom linen (towels, mats, bathrobes).

Likewise, you should check that all welcome products or amenities are complete and properly placed, which includes everything from shampoos and soaps to pens, slippers, shower caps or shaving and dental kits.

Time and Productivity Evaluation

An important part of controlling results is the evaluation of the time spent, as it allows you to measure productivity and plan staffing needs.

You can estimate the time required for each task.

For example, a breakdown could be: airing and collecting clothes (2 minutes); cleaning windows (2 minutes); cleaning furniture and vacuuming (6 minutes); making the beds (2 minutes); cleaning
