Floral Arrangement Techniques and Styles
A floral technique is the art of choosing certain flowers, plants or leaves with different physical qualities (color, volume, texture, size) and joining them together to create artistic compositions.
To make these constructions, the elements are first chosen depending on the technique and the desired style, distinguishing mainly between traditional and creative compositions.
Floral Arrangement Styles
Traditional Styles: They are characterized by having symmetry in the placement of the flowers and by using flowers of different sizes.
They usually have a central point, which is often the mouth of the vase. The types of flowers used in this style are:
- Roses.
- Gladiolas.
- Carnations.
- Chrysanthemums.
- Lemongrass and eucalyptus leaves are used as foliage.
Creative or Informal Styles: These styles do not follow a fixed rule, but are based on imagination. They do not work with classic flowers, but rather they use, for example:
- Sunflowers.
- Gingers.
- Birds of paradise.
- Vases with different shapes are sought and dried branches, wooden sticks or bamboo are used as foliage.
Specific Floral Techniques
As for the techniques, there is a great variety for the elaboration of floral arrangements:
- Wicker structure technique: Materials such as wicker and plastic ties are used to create a base structure.
- Metal ball technique: Decorative wires are used that are intertwined with each other to form a ball.
- Flap mounting technique: This is a simple technique that uses wires of different thicknesses, and flowers such as roses, green Spathiphyllum flowers, columnea leaves and the fruit of Sinfarocarpus.
- Candle holding technique: This is a technique for holding candles of different sizes using foam, hairpins, tape, and wicker sticks.
- Aluminum holding technique: This is an easy technique for holding a flower with aluminum wire.
- A glass base and flowers such as Mitsumata, Anthuriums, Medellina leaves, or jasmine branches will be used.
- Handheld bouquet with spiral technique: To perform this technique there are three important points: the flower stem must be clean of leaves; you must have a shorter type of greenery to help separate the material and a longer one for accompaniment; and should be worked with two fingers.
The choice of one technique or another will depend primarily on the desired objective, paying special attention to both the f
